I have contacted the dealer to try to get my second hand 2021 mg5 unbound. They seem to think this has been done but I can’t access a qr code to bind to my app. I was told to swipe on the screen but no qr code available.
I honestly wouldn’t bother with the app at all but octopus are saying that the reason intelligent go isn’t working is that the car has a charging schedule set. I can’t check whether this is true or not!
Anyone got any experience or wisdom to share? My Home Screen is very different the YouTube videos on newer models

Hi, I have a 2021 SR Excite and you can not use it with the smart app. You need the face lift.
Octopus can not talk to any MG's as they won't release the API.
What EVSE (charge point) do you have?

Hi,
I have a Zappi charger, which is compatible with octopus and has been paired up. The flexible octopus scheduling doesn’t work for as yet an unknown reason. The suspicion is that my car has a charging schedule enabled which is overriding the octopus schedule. I am unable to confirm or deny as yet because I can’t access any charging info for the car…
Is there really no app that works with a 2021 mg5?

No app works with the pre facelift, either SR or LR. I might add, it doesn't have the capability to set charging schedules so I doubt that is the issue
Yes, I just had a look through the manual and can confirm there is no timer facility.

You could always try the universal panacea of disconnecting the 12V battery for a minute and reconnecting. It cures all manner of ills. It certainly cleared the problem when my granny charger refused to play ball.

Thank you, that’s helpful and will hopefully help Octopus find the real reason.
Excuse my ignorance but when did the facelift happen for mg5s and is any firmware update or other change possible to enable it to work with an app?

The facelift came out during mid 2022. The earlier model cannot be upgraded to an app. I had an SR, now on a Trophy. The app is useful for checking the progress of a charging session; I rarely use it for anything else

My brother is having same issue with his Zappi. Theres 'noise' on his electric that's interfering with the scheduling.

Do you have any smart plugs, or plug in WiFi extenders/powerline network adapters. These can all cause noise on the circuit.

You car doesn't have scheduled charging or an app (same as mine) which rules that out instantly.

The way my charging point is set up, the zappi is on a different WiFi network than the house. I can’t believe that would cause an issue though? I’ll have to follow up with octopus and see what they can come up with.

Different router, or different SSID? My Zappi is set to access a guest network, rather than the main house network, and works OK. However, my Eddi is set to be the master device, which might make some difference.

I'm referring to powerline based extenders. These use your home electrical circuit to transfer data between 2 points, often used to extend wifi or fixed wire network to a device. This data can be detected by smart chargers and cause havoc. If you don't know what these are, you likely don't have them.

My brothers Zappi display keeps flagging "detected surplus" and then "waiting for surplus" we think the installer may have installed a CT clamp on his power, but wired it to the 'solar' input on the Zappi and rather than throttling if he has high usage, it's detecting the kettle boiling as excess power to put in the car.

Have you looked at the display to see what it says it's doing?

Go to mg customer service and they need copy of v5 in your name and the unbind it stright away

Confirmed on my brothers his IOG not working was due to the CT clamp being installed backwards by the Octopus engineer when setting up the Zappi. Explains all the headache he had trying to schedule charges with the Zappi and it randomly starting a charge after he got home.

Always worth checking the simple stuff! Octopus are going to refund the difference on all the charges it has done at peak rate since install.

What happens if you set the Zappi to fast and plug the car in, does it charge straight away? if so then the car isnt the issue.
Have you got any schedules set in Zappi? if yes, delete them, set the mode to ECO+, plug the car in again does the Octopus app send you a schedule (displayed in the app), if not then you have a comms issue between Zappi and MyEnergis or MyEnergi and Octopus.

You should get something like this on your phone within a few seconds of plugging in:-
