I have a 23 plate MG ZS that I nearly always charge at home or work, and rarely drive out of range. But I have previously charged it successfully using CCS chargers at service stations.

Yesterday we drove a 180 mile trip and wanted to recharge so we wouldn't arrive on empty. We tried three CCS chargers and none of them would connect (they all just timed out and said unable to connect). We also tried a type 2 charger and had the same issue. We managed to (just) make it to our destination and had to charge for 12 hours using the mains as we were staying with friends in a village. We did try another nearby Type 2 charger the next day and that managed to work, and managed to make it home with a couple of quick Type 2 top-ups on the way, but still had zero luck with CCS. It's now charging normally on our charge point at home.

We are going to ring a dealer asap to try and figure out what is going on, but I can't find any similar results on Google and just wondered if anyone had come across this before or had any ideas?

It sounds like you may have a problem with the rapid charging circuit. Fortunately there's not too much to go wrong since 99% of the work is done in the external charger. Unfortunately, clueless dealers might needlessly replace the CCS2 socket and harness at great expense.

I had exactly this issue. Drove from Stafford to Cornwall… stoped at the Buckfastleigh Osprey Hub and tried two different chargers. No joy so called the help desk and they got me to try two more chargers. The car would not communicate with the chargers. Eventually drove a few miles down the road to a type 2 charger and topped up enough to get to my destination with 30 miles to spare. Found a very nice hotel that let me use their charger overnight even though I was not a guest. While in Cornwall tried a Swarco, Tesla (one open to all EVs) and GeniePoint chargers… none would charge. Thanks to the hotel and a full charge and the fact I could only average 31 mph on our journey back on bank holiday Monday, I made it back without having to charge. Car booked in for May 22nd for investigation. The dealer has said they have had three like this. Two they fixed with a software update and one replace CCS components.

I have a 2023 ZSEV which had exactly the same issue. It’s now completely stopped charging. It’s been back to the dealership 6 times in 9 months with no resolution and now sits outside my home awaiting recovery. Apparently I can’t now get it in for repair for 8 weeks due to the volume of issues being experienced by MG.

Thank you. This is really useful. I couldn't find anyone online with the same experience. Ours is booked in with the dealership so hopefully they will be able to sort it out!

No, could you explain what this is and how to do it?
Use a 10 mm spanner and disconnect the negative terminal of the 12 volt battery for 10 mins. It resets all the control units in the car and is like an Alt-Ctrl-Delete on a PC. It can correct a lot of these random errors. :)

Just a question on this if anyone knows - what happens with the saved settings when you do this, like radio stations, driving settings, do they all go back to "factory settings" or it comes back as it was ?

Just 2 days ago I had to do this because my DAB radio wouldn't play after a journey up the M5. All the stations were stuck on Midland stations. When I reconnected the battery, I went into favourites and Greatest Hits Radio Bristol was still there and played straight away. :)
