Back to page 870, are you sure the drivers door was closed or latched properly? Easy to miss and you won't engage ready mode until it does. Maybe a dicky connection? (I hope that translates well.)
Yes, door was definitely closed.

I even got out to check the alignment of the front wheels and got back in, door closed. And it did eventually come back to ready state once I heard a clunk (sounded like a relay/contactor) from the steering column.

Still having issues with the 2Air CarlinKit 5.0

Blank screens, or no connection at all. Sometimes it works but zero pattern to it.

Today after stopping twice to get it going, which involves are lot of farting about, it froze up after about 15 minutes. Requires an infotainment system shut down and sometimes that helps it start up. Often with a blank screen though.

Reminds me of this song by Neil Young:

Weird one this morning and a bit concerning.

After a beach walk, stopped for a morning brunch with the wife and dog and when we got back in to head off the car refused to show READY and move into a drive gear.

All I could get was a message on the driver's screen say "Please move the steering wheel". But the wheel was very difficult to move, and the wheels were dead straight. Much force would only move it a little.

I powered the car down via the menus and powered up again, but no change. Refused to change into a READY state. Tried a few times. Got out and back in to try again. Same problem.

After about 15 minutes and a failed attempt at contacting the MG support line (they just refer you to a web link, which is fine if you have data coverage but coverage was crap, so that goes nowhere), I tried powering down for about the 5th time.

On powering up again this time I heard a clunk from the steering column, and the READY state came back, I was able to select a drive mode and head off.

It was rather strange and frankly absurd. It was parked on a dead flat bit of road.

My guess is dirty 12V battery terminals. The steering is powered by the 12V battery (so Coulomb informed me) so no power delivery from the 12V battery and no steering and no READY display .... because you can't drive without the electric steering.

I'll take a look but for a less than year old garaged car living in a relatively mild climate it seems unlikely.

I took a look this afternoon. The 12V battery terminals are pristine. I tightened the clamps a little but they were in no way loose.

I recommend contacting the local dealer/service agent and log a diagnostic/check. The service agent here in Hervey Bay has been fantastic, first time a few months ago, for the AEB fix (emergency brake and was booked in next day and software updated under warranty)
Recently my car had been dropping into Neutral after driving highway speeds and slowing down. They updated a few modules all under warranty (got about 20 ‘alarms’ from iSMART app while they were doing it ?) I’ll be testing it on the highway in the next week or so - history is all logged for future now

This got my day off to a good start ?

After you’ve jumped through quite a few hoops. And proved you don’t owe anyone any taxes. You get a nice note saying you’ve been approved ? and a cheque for 6k
Time is running out though, the scheme has under 10 million left. I guess the next update on the total will show it near zero.

Huh. I'm not so sure now. In ICE cars, power steering is typically via hydraulics, which sounds like a lot more power than you'd want to take from the 12 V system.

But then again, power steering likely only operates when in ready mode, i.e. when the DC-DC is ready to supply up to 178 A to the nominally 12 V system. So that mitigates the high current requirement.

I did a quick search and only found my own post ?

Modern vehicles use electric power assistance, not hydraulic (ICE or EV), typically a 12V system for several reasons: it is more efficient, simpler and more reliable and it enables steering assist systems (like ELK/LKA and TJA) where the car does the steering for you. Downsides include less feel than hydraulic systems.

MG Ismart Au Nz version, app. Does anybody us it?
I downloaded the android version, but can't get it to register. It doesn't recognise the security code sent to me email address.

It's been a while but I believe you need to choose your security code, a four digit PIN. Is the other code an activation code instead?

I have written several articles about Australian MG4 electric car software updates so readers often ask me if there’s any more recent news about this topic.

I’ve written below about everything I know so far including a detailed quote from an MG Motor Australia media spokesperson.

Please let me know if you've noticed any small changes / improvements I haven't listed

Hopefully they release an update soon for a proper CUSTOM mode that remembers OPD ON.

Dear MG4 Australien Owners,

Have you read this topic?

MG4 Luxury - Update Compare in EU

Why included Australia & rest of the world?

My goal is to share informations concerning - is your car is up to date or outdated.
Updates are not OTA, and "garages" sometimes refuse to install them and users/owners are disappointed. Why mine is not up to date?
This google sheet will allow to help them.

Thanks in advance.

Ok hand up I was wrong. The QLD EV slush fund only dropped 1.5 million last month! That’s close to 250 EVs under $68k sold in a month. Is that a lot?

Remaining scheme funding (as at 30 May 2024): $9,036,000
