How are you getting on generally, Terry? Any news on rebuilding etc?
The motorhome insurance came through, so we travelled back to the Wollongong area and bought a Winnebago with a V10 petrol/LPG engine that was running on 8 cyl at the best, often maybe 5 cyls. Carefully drove it home to Mannum South Australia, around 1600 kms, and have the engine semi pulled apart trying to determine just what the problems are .....

the house insurance ....... that's another story (but was only a single storey building you say) at the moment, busy marking the 32 page PDF with all the things they are attempting to get away without paying.
Strangely enough, the insurance says a 3 bedroom fibro/weatherboard house, put out to tender, can't be rebuilt for the AUD500,000 it was insured for ..... so, no rebuild at the moment ......

The plan is to get this "new to us" Winnie the way we want it and running well, and head off to do the travels we planned to do more than 10 yrs ago ......

T1 Terry

What happens during a complimentary 1000km MG4 Australia basic service check?

I recorded it so you know what is included. I recommend negotiating adding a free 1000km check to your MG4 purchase contract.

I've never heard of anyone being allowed to watch their vehicle being serviced. Apart from the obvious OH&S issues it could lead to later disputes. I hate people watching me work. Mostly they can't do what I am doing but feel free to tell me I am doing everything wrong.

The checks in the video are all things any owner can do and should do anyway & I think the only reason that the owner was there was because of the You tube video process. I also found a 12 volt battery terminal a bit loose. How do you check the Engine bay when there isn't an engine. A hangover from ICE power obviously.

My 1000km check was complimentary & didn't take very long at all, mostly I reckon because it was one of the first in the country & they didn't know what to check anyway. When I dropped the car off none of the service staff had any idea how to start it. 4 months later when the undertray fix was done it was a completely different story as they had seen more than a hundred MG4s by then.

our 1000km was complimentary, but we weren't allowed to watch, we spent half a day in the waiting room for it to happen. No idea what they did.
Yup that's why I recorded it since I know 99.9% of people aren't allowed to watch. I arranged it beforehand with MG HQ

G'day all, just signing in. I didn't see an "I'm new" section in the forums, so thought I'd do it here.

I have an Brixton Blue Excite 51 on order, and after reading the 1287 posts above mine, I can't wait to get into it!

Don't know how many folk in the Southern Hemisphere are aware of this guy (I find him quite entertaining, if not always politically correct in his musings).

However, it appears MG are offering some pretty heavy discounts on MG4's in Oz until the end of October 2024. Might also explain some of the good lease deals we have been seeing the UK recently.

You're a bit late to the party, this discount offer and chat here about it has been ongoing since mid-September.

People have been snapping up some awesome deals on MG4. October's sales figure will be very interesting.

MG Australia were not selling MG4s as fast as they had hoped, so decided on an aggressive campaign to clear stock. It seems to have worked but we'll wait for the numbers when released in early November.

Cadogan is a bit of an enigma but he's smart enough to know that click bait matters for generating publicity for his business. He has some helpful videos but much of the somewhat misogynistic content is not to my taste - he's playing to his audience and knows what does and does not drive views. It's more a statement about the viewing public than him.

The anti-EV trolls come out in force in the comments, but they do that anywhere/everywhere - it's certainly not unique to his media content.

He is not anti-EV, but he does ramp up the EV fire risk rhetoric at times - it plays well with the crowd. It's a serious issue but gets overdone. He did a good video on the Hyundai Ionic 5N with an Aussie engineer who worked on its development, drove a Kona EV for a year (and loved it) and considers the MG4 a very good car.

His understanding of the national electricity grid and issues with EV charging into the future is pretty rudimentary/unhelpful - he'd do well to read more from the people who are actually managing the transition of our grid about the role of EVs in our electrical energy mix. They have modelled it extensively.

I watched a few of Cardogans videos a year or 2 back & he is quick to pick up & spread misinformation and pass it on to improve his ratings like the fire started by a Range Rover in a car park in the UK & the car carrier off the Netherlands that burned. Both falsely claiming the fires were caused by EVs. Just like a politician he never comes back with any apology or admission that he made a mistake.

I can't stand him now.

like the fire started by a Range Rover in a car park in the UK
I posted the official report link to that video's comment section later on when it came out. Was never acknowledged.

I frequent another forum (DIY Solar) and boy the conspiracy theories run thick and fast over there. I came upon a wall of people who were more inclined to believe the official report by a local UK fire service was a big cover up for EVs than to accept a reality that did not fit their chosen narrative.

Cadogan is an interesting character. As others have said, he knows his audience and most of his content is geared towards garnering their clicks.
I follow his content, but largely not for the car stuff. His engineering/workshop stuff is quite good. Have picked up quite a few tricks from those vids.

Is the radio supposed to automatically activate at the previously set volume when the car is powered up?
Sometimes mine does, and at other times it needs to have the "play" icon tapped.
Maybe I've missed something in the settings?

Mostly mine doesn't auto-play ... and I prefer that. (Before I got the UK's 1100R33 update it would always auto-play).
