Hi all

I know the Mg4 has an app, but does this app also show the location of the vehicle in real time? I currently have an obd2 tracker in my car, so I know where my car is at all times. Just wondering if the MG4 has a tracker that updates every 10 secs or so when the car is moving and you can see it on a map?

I have seen a map of where I've been when poking around in the iSmart app. I don’t know how often the position is updated, whether it can be turned off, or how long the data is retained.

I too have an independent tracker.
I’ve pressed the iSMART app ‘ find my MG’ button a few times. And each time it locates my car in the ACT, not in Queensland. And I don’t seem to be able to change it.
Might not be the ‘iSMART-est’ piece of software ever developed 😉

The car definitely does report its status back to the SAIC servers, and you can query it with tools for the reverse engineered SAIC API (eg SAIC-iSmart-API)
I use this with home assistant. It will refresh location every 30 seconds (I haven't tried any shorter interval than this, it might be possible). I have mine set to 60 second updates.
Example from a trip down the M2 to Beecroft today:

ok good to see it works !

I tested it when my wife picked up a friend on her way to quilting. I could see the car parked with boot open at her friend's house while they loaded her sewing machine. Later on it showed it locked and off at her quilting place.
so at least the ismart app works well with our MG4

Side by Side old & new app comparison - Australian MG car owners including the popular MG4 now have a new remote control app with a useful extra feature that enables faster login and car control to start features like precooling and preheating

People like Leon and Wattmatters will be able to advise on how well it interfaces with Home Assistant

It's working alright in HA for me.
In terms of new features it doesn't make much of a difference.

The main benefit is just the bug fixes and improvements that have been worked on in the HA addon for the last 12 months since Europe moved over to the new version.

The new app is worse than the original. There is no dark mode, light is the only option & it looks washed out. The graphics are nowhere near as good. If the car is not charging it does not show the range on the screen even after refreshing it. You have to go in to the charging screen and wait for it to update. I've never used the feature to start the A/C etc so can't comment on that.

Easier for what?
I think glend14 means wouldn't a smart tag be easier for tracking your car

Watch me install and review 6 must have MG4 protection accessories to protect my EV from scratches, scuffs, wear and tear.

I met the owner of EV Trove at Sydney International EV Auto Show while looking at the MG & BYD accessories at his stand, he offered to send me some so I could review them & let you know if they're good quality

I had a look at that website, for a lot of things they charge a lot more than MGTitan does, and as you said in your video you received the stuff from China so it sounds like they're just drop shipping.

Some examples;
Mudflaps, MGTitan $27 EVtrove $49,95
MG4 Doors sill protectors; MGTitan $42 Evtrove $54,95
Black Badges; MGTitan $18 EVTrove $27,95

MGtitan also ships free for orders over $50, where EVTrove ships free from $150

Responding to your comment and some other feedback sent to me by some viewers

The items I reviewed were sent from the Evtrove China warehouse but they also stock some items in Sydney for faster shipping.

I'd say I wish the fonts saying MG4 were chosen better but otherwise the products do the protection job they need to.

Could they look better otherwise? Not sure how. 5 of the products are after all protective strips . The 6th being an armrest cover looks the same as the original just with a white stripe

As for buying from Temu, AliExpress, MG Titan etc sure people can do that but then they risk variable quality and have no warranty.

Buying from an Australian shop like Evtrove or other local Aus competitors means purchases are covered by Australian consumer protection laws and have a warranty
