MG4 Trophy LR
MG 4 150Kw Trophy EV Long Range 64kWh

Lights going out while I drive.(once on a country road,..f**** terrifying)
Strange random messages about SOS not working flash up and disappear.
Other messages appearing once ( including "System Fail") and unable to find them again. Again terrifying while on Motorway
Less than 200 mile range despite being "Long Range" .
Needing to complete a three stage routine to turn off lane change detection EVERY TIME I DRIVE!!
Trying to use a fast 22KW public charger only to find our the car can only charge at a pathetically slow 7KW
No easy button to turn radio on. have to "ask" via voice control and that takes 5-6 attempts on average.

So, hate my first (and last electric car) and hate this one even more than I could have imagined.

Warning sounds/lights when travelling at speed are very scary.

I'd get the 12V battery checked by your dealer.

Range

The range thing sounds like a general EV issue - people assume the range will be consistent but it varies depending on numerous factors like driving style, speed and temperature.

EV database is very good on real world range and here is what they say...

MG are actually pretty good in that their website lists the different ranges under different conditions, rather than just listing the optimistic or general scenario only.

Other issues

However, the rest of these those points sound like little niggles of the kind you might get with any car. We don't bother turning off LKA but I understand why people do.

*** just take it to your dealer with a list of the issues. It's probably a loose 12V battery terminal or a module on the car that needs updating or replacing maybe. Who knows? This sucks but can happen on any new car (or any hi Tech product). It probably hasn't been fully commissioned PDI checked by dealer. 200 miles this time of year isn't ridiculous tbh especially if fast motorway driving.

Maybe next time you can do your due diligence so you would know what you are buying. The car has a 7kW inverter, or 11kW if you have the 77kWh battery. If you need to charge faster than that use a rapid charger and you can get as much as 144 kW.

Not the car’s fault you buy things without looking into what you’re buying.

'Lights going out while I drive' could be the Automatic Headlights? I turned that off on the first day of owning my MG.
'the car can only charge at a pathetically slow 7KW'... you know this is bonkers!
'No easy button to turn radio on' It's staring you in the face, on the Home Screen

Please shut the door on your way out, bye...

could be this issue (=user error)... headlights cut out randomly
No, that would make sense, but its not that

Sell it and move on then.
Its a leased vehicle, through my work. Im stuck with it.

Could be but what it was, was not my or my passenger's concern as I hit sudden absolute darkness on a country road in December.

No I don't. Can you explain why. I really have no idea.

No it doesnt work if I've previously being listening to media. Radio is NOT AN OPTION. I agree that a swipe to the other menu and a few more screen touches I will find the radio but I do not like playing with my screen while I drive ( see Lane Change routine)

Please shut the door on your way out, bye...

Yeah OK bye then..

A couple of people have had lights issues where you have to come to a stop, lock the car & unlock it to get them to work again, I would request diagnosis through lease or dealership

Use a CCS charger (30kw+) and it'll be able to charge up to 144kw depending on charger & state of charge

Yes radio could be implemented better but it's still useable

Home charging (which is 230V AC) uses your home electrical supply. The vast majority of homes in the UK have a single feed (also called single phase). Because of other electrical loads in the property then the maximum load current allowed for charging a car is 32A ... this equates to just over 7kW charge rate, which is perfectly fine for an EV in most cases - you plug in before you go to bed and wake up in the morning with a fully-charged car (or charged to whatever maximum limit you have set).

Whilst a higher AC charging rate can be beneficial, it's not usually essential. (It also adds to the cost, as the car would need a 3-phase converter - the higher the cost of components, the higher the cost of the car). An EV requires a mindset change - essentially refuel (charge) when you can (and is convenient), not when you have to (as you would in a petrol/diesel car).

Fair enough, its my first ( and last) EV and I didn't do the full PhD needed to become expert in all the terminology or insights into which battery does what but can you explain what you mean by "If you need to charge faster than that use a rapid charger". I used a PodPoint 22Kw charger and after 1 hour it had only charged 10% . That's not all a 22Kw would do is it?

Please see my earlier reply ... the car is the charger, not the (AC) supply. Go to a DC rapid charger (e.g. an open-to-all Tesla supercharger) and you'll get much faster speeds ... 10% to 80% charge in about 30 minutes or so.

Have they, that's interesting. That's what happened to me too, kinda like a reboot. I did call MG Customer Services who just weren't very interested . Also called the dealership who said they wouldn't be able to give me courtesy car- Its Christmas I need a car, even a dangerous one.

I really sorry but I don't understand what any of that means. I used a 22Kw and it charged at 7Kw. Am I doing something wrong?

Fair comment re the radio. Thanks

Is it a brand new car @ADC1966 ?
yes May 2024. contract hire lease. Lease company don't want to know.

A 22kw (AC) will only charge at 7kw, a 30kw+ (DC) will charge at the rating up to 144kw

I'm sorry but I really didn't understand your reply and I don't know what a DC Rap[id charger is or where I would find one. I used a charger in Tesco, a 22Kw Pod Point but it didn't charge any faster. I Googled why that might be the case, and read that my MG4 can only use up to 7Kw chargers. Is this wrong?
