Not an MG
Ok, so a long, long time ago (feels a lifetime ago now) I joined this forum and pre-ordered a white Trophy LR.
We tracked ships, delivery at ports...all manner of things and 6 months past and after delay upon delay and with a spiralling number of complaining owners (bulges in under trays, oil leaks) later, I cancelled my order and walked away.

Well, I kept abreast of developments, watched as the software updates come, made new issues, solved some old ones...all the while going through similar issues with our VW ID3....until today that is.

The ID3 had gone back after 3 sometimes serene years, sometimes frustrating years (main one was a £3.5K replacement for the Main Infotainment screen - under warranty & the odd dealer installed updates).

But today....I have just placed a reserve on a 2023 (73 plate) MG4 Long Range in Arctic White (revised model with Rear wiper & 18" wheels).

It currently resides in the Lincoln MG dealership with my reserve on it but with it being an MG dealer car (previous registered keeper MG Longbridge - I will double check what that means) only 12K miles on the clock and for £250 per month 24 months, I thought that represented value I could not ignore.

I am now scrabbling through familiar threads taking notes and pulling an inspection list together ahead of the visit to the dealer in the coming days to view, test drive and hopefully sign up.
Note this will not be my local dealership, I live some 88 Miles from it, but I hear positive things from my local dealer (Holdcroft - Warrington) in terms of car service.

I Just hope SC077 can be installed before I test drive it and all is how it should be(y)

What are my chances of 2 years trouble free (all relative) motoring?:p

It appears you have done your research and due diligence, so if you have a good one , and there are many, enjoy. You are based ideally for Snowdonia and the Trough of Bowland, whilst its quiet , excellent roads for a day out , tea and cake and appreciation of what it can do, again enjoy!

Longbridge is the HQ and factory complex of the original Austin car manufacturer. It became MG Rover until the collapse in 2005. It has since been redeveloped, but SAIC motors have kept part of the complex and use it for research for their vehicles. So I guess MG Longbridge means it was registered to MG UK HQ.

I’ve had 2yrs largely trouble free in my SE, so I’d say the chances are good you’ll get the same. The only issues I’ve had in that time have been software related, and rattly interior, but nothing I couldn’t overcome to be honest. Mechanically it has been as sound as I’d ever want a car to be.

Interestingly, when I check on the Gov website, it is untaxed (no surprise) but the Date of last V5C Issued was 02nd Dec 2024.......it was only listed on Autotrader 14th Feb 2025......what happened for 2.5 months?
Was it sold and has since been rejected?

Oh my...my late evening tired brain is thinking dark thoughts again I should stop poking around and wait for the Dealer conversation tomorrow.......😣

Vehicles are now untaxed (de-taxed?) when sold. The new owner has to tax it when they buy it. Not like before when tax already paid for stayed with the vehicle. If there's a gap in the tax record, that just suggests it was sitting unsold on the dealer's forecourt for a while.

They do look nice in white. Looking down on mine sitting on the drive, it's the brightest white I've ever seen, it almost glows sometimes.

Not sure about over there, but over here, our 51 was registered Dec last yr and did roughly 1,000kms in just under 3 mths ..... I think they might be pulling a swifty trying to improve sales figures for the end of yr ......

Interested to know why you've chosen to go that route when you can get a brand new vehicle for £13/month extra, and VED would be included in future years in that price.

Cracking lease deal 👍 .........thats the cheapest personal lease there has been on the Trophy according to Leaseloco.

If you follow it through it's with Carparison ... available in Volcano Orange only though with a 4 week delivery.

Why would it matter when he's only leasing it for 2 years? If he was buying for long term ownership, sure, I'd want new too if the price difference was slight, but renting, who cares?, keep the costs down.

The OP doesn't give any information on the terms/ reasons behind choosing that deal, but based on the little information there is it looks like the 3 year lease offers better value (ie. includes VED in years 2 & 3, and no MOT to cover unlike the deal he's chosen), so I asked a question. Hope that clarifies things.

May indeed be better then, assuming he was OK with 3 years. When renting, I think many like the option to change cars more frequently.

i am looking at a se nav version too, priced new at 18 k wasnt sure about orange colur , would leasing be better at that price point o wonder or will it depreciate less than 9 k in 3 yrs
