AA wireless dongle

Reading up it's a wifi connection for Android Auto to your phone.
Sounds good but think I will stick to the wired method.

My AAWireless arrived today and it's easy to set up and works perfectly, solving all the connection and dropout problems I was having with my Galaxy S9.
I'd tried all the suggestions re cables and settings in the Android Auto app but nothing was completely reliable. Having multiple failed connections on startup and then sometimes having to pull over to reconnect because Google Maps had dropped out was definitely not fun.
I see many have no problem with their cabled setup and now I know how you feel to have true Android Auto functionality. If you are having problems I definitely recommend getting AAWireless (though they are having some supply chain issues at the moment so you might have to wait till January).

I'm probably missing something but I've found no reason at all to use Android Auto yet. If I want to play music I simply connect the phone to the infotainment with bluetooth and play music. If I want to use a satnav I simply use the phone satnav (which is far better functionality than the crap built-in MG one) and use the voice directions over bluetooth. Both also work correctly if there is an incoming call.
By and large I find the screen in the middle console pretty useless - it does give a pretty picture of the state of the aircon draughts, and occasionally I listen to radio 3, but that is all.

Yes but you have to use a wire in to your phone and car the dongle turns in to wireless connection, if you have a Android phone your connection is to Android Auto anyway. I use a IPhone and now cornect by a dongle and have no wire hanging around.

No you do not have to use a wire to play audio through the car speakers. A simple bog standard bluetooth connection is all you need. The wire is only needed if you want to use Android Auto, but I see no point in that. Very few useful (to me) apps work with it - it is basically a techno-****.

I use the Carplay one and it works very well.
It uses Bluetooth to Pair, and WiFi to transfer data.

TomTom works OK, but Google maps is fine.
There is also another free one from TomTom

Does the TomTom free one do all the necessary things: full postcode search, voice guidance? And do the maps get stored on the phone or does it need a mobile data signal?

It's on line I think, but I think it does some local cashing. So simular to Google maps

Any chance it fits in that little compartment with the USB's with the lid closed?
