When the car is 60 percent charged the charger only draws 2.6kWh. Is this normal?

Then it will be trying to push about 7kWh into the car. If the car is taking less, then it's the car which is limiting it.
FAST Charges at the fastest rate. Fast Mode will charge the EV at the fastest rate and will import grid electricity if there is insufficient surplus generated power. The actual charge rate is dependant on the EV's onboard charger and the grid supply voltage. Typically, vehicles have either a 3.3kW or 6.6kW charger. The actual power can be a little different if the grid supply voltage is not exactly 230V. zappi will deliver up to 7kW provided the supply connection is suitably rated
Does the car charge at 7kWh until 60% and then immediately switch down? Does it stay at 2.6kWh?

Thanks Stuart, I’ll run battery down over next few days and see what sort of charge the battery takes at say 20%. I’ll get back to you with results.

This not drawing more than 2.6kW, so I have logged the problem with Energii awaiting reply.

Zappi isn’t problem it’s the cars ability to accept the higher rate, having car checked out tomorrow.

car back at garage having the diagnostic readings downloaded and sent to MG, bit of a nightmare really

Right update, the onboard charger needs replacing so once this part is ordered and replaced I’ll let you know

Update, there are little or no spares in the UK. The onboard charger is on back order from China, so don’t think any major parts replacements happening anytime soon.

Did they give you an ETA? You could argue that your car is pretty much unusable with that charging rate.

No eta but I’m worried now because if you do need to call upon the 7 year warranty anytime soon there are very limited spare parts in the UK

Coming to the decision to return car and just wait for next generation of electric car. First one isn’t a good one.

Guys,

I take it that the car (even with that slow rate of charge (and we can only be talking about AC charging (I think) as DC charging bypasses on board charger and charges the battery pack Directly) the car starts off with a full SOC in the morning ,if so what is all the fuss about the charging rates. So who cares about the charging rate anyway as long as you can charge up overnight, that is all that matters. What IS important is the charge rate when charging up on a long fun and even then it's not really the charging rate you should be concerned about but how long it takes. You will not be using AC charging on a long run anyway because it's useless (too long) but the CCS, so as long as CCS charging gives you 80 percent in under 45 mins then stuff the AC charging rate. You must never forget that for battery health that slow charge is better anyway. As a mute point I ALWAYS plug my car in EVERY night no matter what the charge level is and don't care about battery health as I always want a full SOC every morning and I will let the warranty deal with any problem that may occur with the battery. So if you like the car otherwise, keep it and enjoy it for the moment and stop worrying about the battery charging rate. I myself are keeping mine until the MG e-motion comes out and jumping ship then.
