One guy suggested changing the 12v battery and it worked everything came back alive.

Nobody knows what caused it but the 12v was fudgeed.

Interesting.

But I can't dispel the idea that maybe the old battery might have worked if they disconnected it for the same period of time it took to change the battery over. Unlikely, but something to consider perhaps.

No not really. Not if your SAIC. plus here are third parties who can test out cars so not really a reason.
Also the cars that they will be selling to uk market needs to work with uk chargers. That’s just product development.

They were testing the LR version of the ZS, in the UK last year. I posted to this forum, back last July, after I met with one at the Rapid charging station at the Moto services at Rugby. I ordered one last year and like others, I'm still waiting. The fact that is was rapid charging shows that the car was being tested for everyday use . I still see the same car around Warwickshire and still in its camouflage swirly wrap.

On the new ZSEV the 12v is monitored constantly, even with the car off and locked, and it gets charged by the HV if it needs to be. Its in the manual.

One thing that I have noticed on the new ZS EV facelift with the upgraded information unit.
Even though the car is completely shut down.
When I entered the car to clean the finger marks off the screen, when touching the screen, it omits that slight “Beep” sound, that is does when you select a function !.
The car had been completely closed down all night, but this would suggest that some 12 volt supply is still being drawn by the head unit ?.
It sounded a few times, as I pressed my finger on the screen.
The car is completely closed down of course.
Has anybody else spotted this yet ?.
My first though was, is this draining the 12 volt battery ????.

It doesn't matter, 12 v is topped up automatically from HV, even with the car off and locked.

Thank you so now we have the manual saying 2 opposite things how useful ? which one it true?

it was an osprey 50kw, one that i used successfully previously on 4 seperate ocasions i might add. MG need to find a way of preventing this happening, or at least a way to allow a reset without the car having to be hauled to the dealer!!!

As it seems to be the car and the charger, not being able to communicate in the right way, the fault lies firmly on the car.

Even if the charger is giving the car bad communication data, the car should just say "I don't understand that, and i will not charge" instead of "blowing a gasket" and getting into a failmode that it can not get out of without specialised equipment.

I understand and agree with all of that, but mine failed after it charged correctly, all comms were fine to allow it to charge. Its only when I stopped the charge using the Bonnet app did the car throw up the errors. So if we can identify the commonality between all the individual failures, be that the process that was used to start and stop the charge, the type or make of charger, the SOC it failed at etc, only then can we start to home in on what needs to be fixed or a process that needs to be changed.

It seems the car misinterprets the "I am going to stop charging" command from the charger

Again, the right procedure would be to disregard any command it does not understand instead of throwing a fit

This seems to be an ongoing problem.
Is there some new or different sequence to follow when charging the new ZS ?
The Kia Soul is looking more and more attractive to me, as a replacement next for my gen 1, as I hear these horror stories with the new ZS. ?

I ended up cancelling my ZS order with no delivery date in sight, lucky to pick up a pre-ordered Kia Soul and am very happy with it.

Not sure if it had been mentioned, but what long range did this happen on? Reason I ask is, I have the trophy. I was more than a little nervous as I had a 6 hour trip on Easter Monday and having read all the rapid charge disasters. Used Instavolt 4 times and it was absolutely seamless. I have noticed the trophy connects seem to be having more issues in general (I have had the car for a month and have had nothing to worry about). I was wondering if the model is the common issue? That said, low 12V makes sense. Especially if the cars have been sitting waiting for the right chips to arrive.

Having had issues before with 12V batteries in EVs, they have to be looked after.

I have the Trophy Connect and driven for about 4,500 miles now. Not a single issue.

I have test charged it on Rapids about 4 times just in case I needed to. No issues on a BP Pulse 50kW Charger. Used the GridServe chargers a couple of times at Rugby with no issues.

Finally I used one of the MFG chargers, and this was fine giving me around 87kW charging.

Cannot fault my car.

I.e. what is correct as per the manual and what is the process to not cause any issues (if different)?

I'm thinking nearly all of my charging will be at home, but in the odd event of a long journey with the kids, I'd like to know I'm doing the right thing. I.e. keep it off, use app to end charge or not as the case may be...

Best practice seems to be (1)to turn car off and then Wait 10 seconds before plugging in and (2)always use app to stop charging

As I said, I have only used a Rapid charger a few times. Each time I used the screen in the car to stop charging.

Power off, shut door. Open flap. Sort out what is needed at the charger then plug in, that normally takes a while. Charge as required. You can get back into the car and power it up while it is charging. Suggest you make sure it is charging before you get back in the car. Charge as needed then use the screen in the car to stop charging.

I’ve only rapid charged a few times so maybe I have been lucky.

Hi @MichaelJHunt can you clarify :- "Power it up while it is charging".
Are we talking fully booting up, into the READY drive mode, with your foot applying pressure to the brake pedal.
Or - Booting up only into "STANDBY" mode ( no pressure applied to the foot brake ).
I am a rare visitor to rapid units, but the last time I used one on our previous ZS EV - I stopped the charging process on the screen of the Polar rapid, paused then removed the CCS plug.
No App of course on the original ZS EV of course.
