Unless you regularly use three phase you probably don't want that cable anyway. They're much thicker and heavier to lug around.

Gridserve I've found to be the most reliable and easy to use. Just park up, plug in and swipe your credit card. BP Pulse have been consistently poor. Most / all networks don't require a subscription just many offer cheaper prices if you do subscribe.

I think the slowing excessively on corners was fixed with SCUK001 (under warranty update) or it could have been SC47, either way they fixed this for me the first time I ever took the car in for no charge. They never updated my infotainment for me though so I've done that via USB.

With the map update, leave the usb in for 10-20 mins until it can read it ok. If you pull it out early it'll corrupt the usb and it does take a while Hmm as my update from R30 to R46 went so well before with a usb stick, tempted to try R59 if it's easy enough to downgrade again
