Thank you @tsedge and @siteguru for the explanations. Never had such a buggy car before nor heard of software fixes not being applied by default (from old skool IT world)! Have only had the odd recall on cars previously.

I know what you mean but EV cars are super heavy and her commute is over an hour. My son managed to bring it home but it's not something I can risk with her commute and she has very tight parking options on her campus as well as busy motorways to navigate.

Excuse my ignorance but what is the r59 package? Presuming can only get software update at a dealership - so have been trying to book in under repair rather than service option but have explained what the issue is each time.
Thanks - That’s what we first thought even before this error that there would be some kind of degradation. To randomly lose power steering 5 mins into a journey is just not acceptable!
