    MG4 - charging from a 13A socket

It's not the cabling or the granny charger - it's the plugs and sockets (excluding the granny charger's own 13A plug, which has thermal protection). They're not protected against thermal runaway, which can occur at any time when there are contacting metal surfaces. As I've said. You have also...

    MG4 - charging from a 13A socket

I should mention that a plug/socket combination can go into unexpected thermal runaway   at any time. Keep a watchful eye (and nose). You have been warned! :)

    MG4 - charging from a 13A socket

It's not the extension lead itself, as I said, it's the plug at the end - which doesn't have a temperature sensor that is coupled to the charger.

    MG4 - charging from a 13A socket

The key thing about use of an extension lead is the wall-socket/13A-plug interface. This can overheat - whether due to an imperfect fuse connection in the plug or just poor contact. The granny charger's 13A plug will have a temperature sensor to guard against overheating (and possible meltdown...

New mg4 off to great start

    Seems reasonable!

New mg4 off to great start

It probably is on the more realistic (for many users) WLTP spec. The CLTC spec favours smaller, lighter cars where aero drag at higher speeds has less effect. Just compare with the (real world and WLTP) range figures for some of the smaller cars coming from Renault and Stellantis etc. which...

New mg4 off to great start

Yes, the safety point of view. I'm not sure where I might have read it, so the possibility of the ER having achieved the extra range by using a higher nickel formula may well be wrong - it's just that it seemed to be a not too unreasonable conclusion. If it is NCM 5.2.3, then it would be a...

New mg4 off to great start

That's interesting - thanks for the info. On the one hand it's a pity the ER may be discontinued, but I have to say I prefer the low-Nickel aspect of the NMC batteries in the lesser-range variants anyway.

New mg4 off to great start

No doubt the interior and software are greatly improved, and very welcome, but the a couple of fundamentals put me off - the likely reduced range and (for me) much inferior looks. And appearance was one of the main reasons I was nearly an early adopter.

New mg4 off to great start

CLTC - favouring city driving, where lightness matters, and why the figures are always higher than for WLTP figures, which reflect mixed driving. So, as a city car it would be competing with offerings from Renault, Stellantis etc. in Europe. Given its looks, I wouldn't be betting on its...

New mg4 off to great start

Reduced battery size (relative to the current model) is a retrograde step. Probably won't be coming here though?

Unintended acceleration in 2024 MG4 Trophy LR

You know, I'm wondering - the car I test drove would have been one of the very first MG4s in the country. And I've just been looking at photos (in road test reviews) of the MG4 interior which show the pedal spacing to be just fine - and hard to imagine how there could be interference when...

Unintended acceleration in 2024 MG4 Trophy LR

I've driven (literally) scores of different cars over the years, and only ever recall making this observation with the MG4. Also, I do vaguely remember watching, much more recently, one of those YT comparisons of EVs (Carwow/WhatCar/Electrifying etc.) in which someone mentioned an unusual...

    Are you lecturing me?

Unintended acceleration in 2024 MG4 Trophy LR

Yes, coming from a Yaris, I did find the angles as I described, so it was definitely a concern that this could cause problems - especially as I intended to run both cars. Operator error or not, it's a bit late if you're hospitalised because of differences in driving ergonomics. The point is...
