    Mg4 fire

I wonder if they put the car together properly after the gearbox issue ? May be a re-routed cable chaffing and shorting.

    Laughable insurance quote from SAGA

The other week I was reviewing insurances for prospective new car (toy) Saga quoted £290 for an Aston Martin DB9 Volante (2008) 3K annual miles Thought quite good? The MG 5 is about £205 per year with 6K annual miles. (fixed for 3 years). Fortunately West Wales is not too high risk.

    Rear screen washer failure.

It was freezing fluid in my case. The fluid was frozen solid ! At the time we had had a few days below -10 deg C. I did not use the car until it warmed up and the pipe had become disconnected, so I had the "footwash" when I first used the rear wiper No garage in the UK is sensible enough to put...

    MG4 & 5 Ventilation

Part of the misting is a build up of water vapour in the car from wet feet, damp clothes etc. I always put a couple of dehuminifier blocks in the door pocket of my MG5. At this time of year they fill up with water within 4 weeks . This cures the problems for me. It is very important to always...

Recent Valuation 30% of what I paid less than 2 years years ago...!

I purchased my MG5 exclusive new but as a demonstrator with 4 miles on the clock! nearly 4 years ago for under £23K , I have been offered a Trophy 5EV LR with delivery mileage of 100 and it will cost about £11k to do the deal? Its what it costs to make the change that counts I reckon the loss...

    A good alternative EV

Probably too many controls on the f$%^%&*$ touch screen ! stars are lost for very odd reasons these days. All we want is a car that protects us in a crash! Thats why I like my old MG5 (lots of buttons and switchesin the ight place!).

    Bad month for solar generation

Well here in sunny West Wales we have exceeded January 2024 generation figures and the days not finished Jan 2024 was 168kWh Jan 2025 is 171kWh and rising so it is a good and encouraging start to the year. Hopefully we will be on target for 5.49MWh like 2023 ?

    Bad month for solar generation

It has been very up and down here in sunny West Wales on 25/01/25 we had 17kWh and on 26/01/25 we had 1.42 kWh ! this morning 28/01/25 is looking at 152 Wh ! and 1.6 inches of rain !!! I think a water wheel may be the way to go ! On the positive side January 2025 looks to be on target to match...

    MG5 won't balance charge (2020 pfl exclusive)

Is it worth charging most of the way using normal; octopus go intelligent and then swap over to the granny charger for the final few % and the balance charge ? This way you could eliminate either a BMS fault or Octopus issue?

    Bad month for solar generation

If you are without power for 4 days after a storm trust me the battery is very handy. My battery and solar PV working with Octopus Go Intelligent saves me approx £2900/year compared with buying my power at standard rate charge @25.9p/unit I do use a lot of power for the house and car (13700 KWh)...

CD Player for our new 2024 MG4 Luxury

I still have 1000+ sound is so much better than compressed mp3 formats. I do have most stored on a Brennen JB7 for easy access (non compressed). The nice thing about a CD is you can see it, touch handle and listen to your music. Shame the ride in the MG5 is not smooth or I could play my LPs...

    Bad month for solar generation

Yes December 2024 was certainly the worst December I experienced. Solar panels face south (this sunny West Wales !!!) December 23 was 104 KW December 24 was 85.6 KW (82.3% previous year) 2023 was 5490 KW 2024 was 4810 KW (87.6% previous year) On the bright side when we were without power for...

Auto Express MG5 news. End of the road

I find the MG5 estate great for the dogs (had mine 3 .75 years so far) These blasted SUV things have very high boot sills and bumpers. Very difficult to lift a dog into ! I will keep my MG5 estate until there is a really good replacement. No doubt when the motoring industry believes we all...

    A couple more newbie questions

Try driving in Wales then you will have fun! As I have an early MG5 (post Covid special) I don`t have a lot gizmos to tell me what to do. I often leave the satnav on (not set to any destination) and it does clearly show the "current speed limit" of the road I am driving on (except the 20mph). I...

    Rear screen washer failure.

I do wonder the stupidity of some garages when it comes to repairs. I know why for the last 50 years I have usually serviced and maintained my own cars.! Mind you most garages could learn a lot from BT and Openreach when it comes to poor service and customer care and stupidity.
