So far I have been lucky and not had go up any long hill climbs so have not experienced the seemingly gutless 1.5 litre doing all the work after the HV battery has cried enough. Having had the original ICE MG3 with its pretty smooth 1.5 litre needing to scream up most hills I guess this has to...
I had a couple of MG3s (manual of course) between 2014 and 2024 and both had hill hold. They did need a steep enough slope to work, so was never too sure if any slight slope would be enough.
Yeap just get and connect a solar cell trickle charger c/w battery crocodile clips to the 12v(!) battery and leave the solar panel sunny side up on the parcel shelf. You can keep a check on the battery using the MG iSmart app. Happy holiday!
We know 12V batteries need 14+volts to charge them but you tend to need and can get "12V" solar cells to charge 12V batteries and surprisingly they will produce around 14V !
Battery conditioners and trickle chargers are also fine but never anything more powerful.
If the car has done some short journeys and it is unlikely to be used for a while, being a low mileage user, parking outside, I find it quite easy to remove the boot 'floor' to connect a 12V solar cell directly to the battery and lay the solar cell on the parcel shelf.
Whoopee - I got my recall letter from MG Motor dated 17th November today. What's funny is it was posted on 23rd December and my seat was actually done on 18th December!
Have this week had the driver's seat issue sorted and asked for any updates to be done while in for the day, to be told there was no sat nav update and no others to be had or needed either. Car itself seems to have performed perfectly since new (May '24) So far have not had any sat nav map...
You will not believe it! Have just received a telephone call from Richmond our local Portsmouth MG dealer to say they will carry out this seat runner recall on 18th Dec when I already had it booked in to check on an occasionally stuck window. Apparently, they should even have all the spares to...
Hi 'Freeway' - you ask "Can you plug the 12v solar into the charger", the answer has to be no.
You would plug the charger into the mains to directly charge the 12v battery in the boot. Or you simply connect the solar panel directly to the 12v battery. Don't know anything about stuff under the...
Yes short infrequent journeys do the 12v battery no good at all, just as on our ICE motors.
As the main power battery charges the 12v one (via a DC/DC converter) you can simply charge the 12v battery when the car is simply switched on and go nowhere. The voltage shown on the driver's screen...
Have had mine for over 18 months now and only just over 5K miles done in that time. Have had no issues at all with the car but do keep an eye on the 12v battery's health. If it is looking a bit low from lack of use or short journeys I put it on a trickle charger or a battery charging solar panel...
Thanks Clive but that is the owners manual not the service manual.
Click in this: MG3 Service Manual.pdf Check out pages 204 - 250. Dead secret obviously!
Nobody has replied to the original posting here. There are indeed 40 blank pages! Haven't sussed how to copy that in but it was this one was at the top. Any news out there???

Oi, MG3 Hybrid...
Hi Emili, as you, having forgotten to push the brake pedal I got the green light too. Realising I had not hit the brake I didn't trust this route, so pressed that start button again to off and then went through the correct procedure so all went as normal. Best to do what it says on the tin.
