Problems connecting to Rapid Chargers - and I'm not a Newbie!

How’s your 12V battery? Is it the original? If the 12V starts to fail then charging can become a bit iffy.

    MG5 spare wheel

The VW spare wheels are a very slightly different diameter than the standard space saver tyre iirc. The spacing of the bolts is correct though. I bought a full size spare with 1000 odd miles on it for about 70 quid off flea bay. Fits in the spare bay under the boot. I should clarify I...

    MG5 Steering - a concern or not?

A bit of an update to this I took the car to Evans Hall Shaw MG in Grantham and pushed the steering issue as a warranty claim They investigated and discovered, or so they said, that a steering module that was not updated. Whatever they did worked because I’ve not had a single recurrence of...

    Used MG5 pre-purchase Checklist

It’s sometimes cheaper to buy a full size spare from a breakers. A new wheel as a spare was about 90 quid delivered Defo get a type 2 it’s essential for any lower power destination charging

    V2G Vehicle-to-Grid capability

Don’t looks as though a bi directional charger is about 3 grand (pounds) Looks pretty attractive considering a powerwall is 7 ish Do you need DNOapproval? I assume so

    Very conservative gom

Yeah I have factored my current soh so I have a capacity of 55kwh roughly It just seems consistently I have more power remaining than the car indicates. I have an anal spreadsheet showing journeys and charging so I can claim mileage, and it’s interesting that the car will often use less power...

    Very conservative gom

Do people find that their mg 5 has more power left than indicated at low charge? For instance charging to 100 percent from 9 percent took between 44 and 48 kWh (depending on losses). 48 delivered by Ohme so lose 10 percent ish. My battery takes about 55 kWh once degradation is accounted for...

    Quirks of the MG5

If you aren’t sure look at the label on the battery look across from behind the passenger side front wheel. It will give you a serial number which shows the capacity It is more likely that the gom is underreporting

Yeah sorry thinking of the digital

    Quirks of the MG5

The mg5 speedo is spot on accurate, no 10 percent allowance. So 65 in the mg5 is pretty much the same as indicated 70 in a lot of other cars

    Quirks of the MG5

Hi 1. Yes sometimes, sometimes it’s slow sometimes normal 2. Mine is the same. The gom is a guess and as far as I can see once you get under 50% indicated it becomes pretty cautious. I tend to find I have 5+ kilowatt hours more in my battery than the gom indicates once I get down to 10 to...

Buying a three year old MG5.....

Car warranties are pretty bad tbh However the warranty will cover the really expensive stuff like motor and battery The nice thing about the mg5 is that underneath it’s a pretty simple car, no crazy suspension or unusual gizmos so it’s not madly expensive to run. If you look through the forum...
