    MG4 Software Update Thread

Yeah, security is definitely an open question here. When it’s this easy to access the Android base system, install unauthorised apps, and update with other versions, it raises concerns about potential vulnerabilities. It’s surprising that there aren’t more restrictions in place.

For engineers designing a closed system, this is not a major concern, they just want a stable version that meets basic requirements. They prioritise reliability over having the latest software. They don’t need advanced ressource-hungry APIs (especially since the hardware is relatively modest...

I’m not sure if MY24 cars are running a newer version of Android. But don’t think of Android 9 as outdated. it definitely is obsolete for a phone or a tablet, but not necessarily for an automotive infotainment system. In these systems, Android serves as a low-level layer, with the entire...

Yep, it looks like SWI133 is for Trophy models, while SWI132 is for SE versions. 29176 also shows MY24 are largely revamped cars…

SWI68, SWI69, and SWI131 share the same hardware, including GPS and Wi-Fi connectivity. This means it’s possible to install Trophy releases on an SE or run Australian software on a European car without any issues. However, SWI86 and SWI171, while based on the same system, have some hard or soft...

    Here's a quick recap: For MY22 and MY23: SWI68 = Trophy (UK) / Luxury (EU) + X-Power SWI69 = SE, SE LR (UK) / Standard, Comfort (EU) SWI86 = Standard (Thailand) SWI131 = Excite (AUS-NZ) SWI171 = Standard (Indonesia) 29958 = MG4 1100 = Standard, Comfort, SE, Excite 1300 = Luxury, Trophy...

Well, the two versions belong to different cars, so they can’t be directly compared. I’m not sure if there’s a more recent release for your car, but MY24 releases are more fluid and responsive.

That’s what I thought. You have a MY24/MY25 car, and your software version is SWI132-29958-1100R29. It is not the same as R38, which is SWI69-29958-1100R38. The lower release number doesn’t mean this version is older; it just indicates that it’s the 29th release of SWI132…

What’s the full version number? (It should start with SWI or DBI.) I’m asking because MY24 and MY25 cars have different release numbers…

You can update the MCU either via SIPS or USB, but you have to perform both updates separately. You moved from an Aussie version to a European one. Both versions are highly similar. I did the opposite job for testing purposes, trying both R05 and R27. R05 is seriously outdated. It lags about...

In your specific case, since you’re still on R16, most of your car’s ECUs are likely severely outdated. Your car should be upgraded via SIPS before attempting any MPU update. R38 is available online, but as far as I know, R16 is not… meaning there’s no way to roll back.

EU MG4 (all variants) - Service campaign SC077 is out, improving lane assist performance

In my old Kia soul EV, I could just disconnect the external speaker by simply pulling off a connector; it didn’t trigger any error and it was totally reversible. it could be just as easy with the MG4. I haven’t located the speaker though…
