iSmart app.....Do I REALLY need it?

Ok, so there are multiple threads on how poor the iSmart app is and my experience is the same as many users on here.

For the first 12 months of owning the car, I couldn't set a charge level (80%, 100% etc), remote heating never worked, most time when just checking the battery level I would need to refresh multiple times to get the information.

When the car went in for its first service, I mentioned this and after a bunch of updates I can now set the charge level, and the remote heating has worked on the 2 times I've tried it.
The battery level thing is still the same.

So, for how I use the car, is it feasible to just unbind, and delete the app and run without?

Thoughts please, before I get rid of the app.

The car itself is great, especially after the service, even the dreaded LKA is ok.

You don't "need" the app, it's just handy to have on occasion, I guess.
I usually only use it to pre-heat the car when it's frosted over, which is handy, but not really necessary as it only takes a few minutes to defrost and demist using the front and rear demisters once you get in.
 
I’ve never installed the app and have gotten along just fine, but I can see how it can be convenient in the example Grriff gave. I set the charge limit on the infotainment screen and as I have a Zappi, I use its app to see when it’s finished charging.

I do the same when charging, set the target SOC in the car then check either my smart meter monitor or my Pod point app to see if it's finished.
 
The app is a"nice-to-have" , not required ...
Like @Kithmo I use it to also warm up the interior , seats. Also to see the charging remotely when i leave it on a street charger.
The Thing that could be useful but havent tested is the Battery pre heating when its too cold outside
that you can schedule thru the App( but you can also schedule it on the Car itself)
 
Its only been a week and so far I haven't missed it.

Set the recharge point in the car before plugging it in and the Easee One app controls the charging schedule.

Glad to find the app is not important. Mine won’t even scan the QR code. The car is great but the software is a pain. The bluetooth connection to my phone has to be continually re-paired, lane assist, collision assist…..argh!
 
Some people have found that taking a photo of the QR code on one phone, zooming it up then scanning the photo in the iSmart app on the main phone can help. :)

The connection problem may be solved by a software update. It may be worth checking with your dealer.
 
Having the app is one of the good features of the car. I use it all the time. I use it to pre heat in the winter including heated seats, pre cool in the summer (not much this year!), also to turn charging on before I go to bed. Also to check I locked it. It has always worked for me even the original app before it was updated.I was very happy when we got the 100 years skin which looks much better. All in all definitely worth having.
 
The original posts asked the question ? do I really need the app ?.
Well - I guess it is a bit like many features, it will be fine without them in some cases, but it is nice if they works correctly.
E.G. - Do you need automatic wipers ?.
Or is it too much trouble to turn on the switch these days ?.
Why do you need voice control to open the sun roof, when the toggle switch is right above your head ?.
The more technical items you build into the car, then simply there is more to go wrong ?.
A lot automatic features / items are nice to have, but not really that essential.
Some are a bit over the top, more of a gimmick than useful TBH.
One manufacturer will bring out a new feature on their cars and then others tend to follow like sheep ? if they think it will attract more punters.
In a rush to offer a new feature, these items never get tested properly and cause all sorts of issues for both the customers and the company involved.
EG - Over the air updates, promised but never worked, need I say anymore ?.
 
I really like the pre warm feature and use it most wintery morning. A lot of new cars (EV and fossil fuel) have apps with this feature. It's great for defrosting the windscreen.
