VOICE COMMANDS MG ZS EV TROPHY 2024

Are you aware that the MG ZS-EV trophy edition has voice commands?
Try saying "Hello MG". You will hear a voice welcoming you and asking "How can I help".
Try saying "Open sunroof" for example (Also "Close sunroof").
There are 96 voice commands. Not all work on UK models. Most do.
Try "Turn on AC" or "Play radio"

Try some.

Is that the later Trophy? I have a 2022 Trophy, and voice commands were then only on the Trophy Connect version. I know that MG decided to remove the ‘Connect’ name, together with the sunroof, but enabled voice commands.

Hi,
Mine's a 2024 Trophy LR. If the commands don't work for you check with MG service if there is a software update for your model.

The earlier Trophy model was not equipped with the voice commands. It’s not something that can be ‘updated’ or ‘upgraded’.
If I had wanted that ability, I would have bought the ‘Connect’ version, but it just wasn’t important to me, and not worth the extra cost.

I'm interested/confused about this after devouring this site for a few months.
Can anyone explain the timeline for me.

I bought a brand new Trophy standard range in September, in the UK on a 74 plate when they were knocking them out with big discounts.

It has the sunroof and a build date of September 2023.
Voice commands don't work.

Other comments on the subject suggest that a build date that late should be without sunroof.

Could mine have been originally destined for another country maybe?

By the way, I'm glad I got the sunroof!

Hi,
My MG ZS EV TROPHY LR is a 24 plate and registered in March this year. It has the voice commands. Start up and say "Hello MG" you should get a voice asking how can I help. If you don't get a reply then contact your local MG service manager for help. BTW one command is "Open sunroof"

@Derek B
As I said above, if we don’t have it, we don’t have it!!
Hi Susanna,
I see that you have the ZS EV Trophy STANDARD rage model
Mine is the Trophy LONG range... and has the voice commands.
Maybe the voice commands don't come with the standard range.
Thank you for joining in. I think we are making progress

My post #3 explains MG’s changes to their model names and the particular specifications that were added or lost.
For example, the V2L and the pano roof were discontinued (although some people were lucky to get a car with one or both of these) - I don’t think there was a definitive cut off date, as some vehicles had already been built with features included.

I have the ZS Trophy Long Range, with sunroof registered Jan 2023 - it doesn't have voice commands, that function came with the "connect" version, which was £500 extra at the time of ordering (a year earlier). My car was built November 2022, and probably one of the last to come with the sunroof. I'm sure there has been a lot of old stock floating around the system fitted with sunroof but not voice commands.
When MG changed the spec they dropped the sunroof and added voice command. There are no doubt some with and some without out there.

My ZS came with tinted windows, which wasn't in the spec when I ordered it. I think the covid shut down forced the factory to build what they could with what parts they could get, hence the "hybrids" we hear about.

yours is likely to be "connect" version of the car, hers is not. mine is not either (2022)
Thank you Fred you have solved the issue. I bought my ZS in October. It was 6 months old and did indeed have the voice commands. I thought this was standard on the Trophy Long Range but having just checked my invoice it does state ZS EV Trophy Connect Long range. Thank you.

I’ve got the same car as you, not sure of build date but I’ve got the voice commands.
Bought it brand new in October. No sunroof though.

I have a Jan 2024 Trophy ZS EV Connect standard (no sunroof), which has voice commands. I saw that list quite some time ago and excitedly jumped in the car to try them out.
However, it hardly recognises anything I say. I feel like this

I talk to all my Google home devices a lot and they very rarely misunderstand what I'm asking. In the MG repeat it several times sounding ever-more like the King but eventually have to give up. Another of the many features included which I never use or have turned off because they are just rubbish. As for the built in navigation - goodness it's terrible. The voice commands again just are never recognised and even when it does recognise something it gives me about 100 choices, mostly for things not in the same country. I try to use Google Maps which works really well just talking to the phone but when talking to Google Maps through the MG Android Auto just doesn't respond at all. I guess the MG microphone input isn't passed through. Yep, voice commands are just another of the plethora of frustrations with this car.

If it’s that bad why don’t you get rid?
Of the 3 errors I’ve had on mine, every time it was user error.
We love ours, ok only had it a few weeks but loving it so far.

I don’t use the in-built sat nav, preferring Apple maps, via CarPlay. I have a dongle which makes CarPlay wireless, and Siri works perfectly well through the car’s microphone. I use what3words frequently for destinations, which MG’s sat nav wouldn’t recognise. In addition, Apple maps (and presumably Google maps) is constantly updated, shows roadworks, speed limits and speed cameras. It’s a no brainer.
