MG4 SE LR
Hi
I've had a new MG4 SE LR for a week and I can't get a scheduled charge to work.
I have a Zappi - no solar.
I have tried scheduling from Zappi unit, Zappi app, from car and from the MG app. Nothing works unless during the active schedule time I physically get inside the car with the keys then it spontaneously starts the scheduled charge.
I have been through the Zappi technical helpline and they have done all they can and signed me off saying there's nothing more they can do.
Any advice would be greatly welcomed , thank you

Hi and welcome to the forum.
What tariff are you on?
Can you post screen shots of your zappi settings?
Thank you
I'm on eon next EV tariff.
Yes I can post shot if Zappi setting, Zappi helpline checked remotely and confirmed all set up correctly. I believe the error lies with the car as it says EV preventing charging

I’ll be watching this with interest, I’m also on E.On Next Drive tariff and I’ve ordered a Zappi charger. So far I’ve only used iSMART to control charging times and levels via the granny charger and everything has worked perfectly for my MG4 Trophy ER…

I had a similar problem with an Easee charger. I finally realised that the clock in the car was the wrong time, so scheduling wasn’t working at all. Once I set the clock to the correct time, all worked well. I still get weird times showing up on the clock. Last week, I got in the car and the clock had jumped 2 hours forward! Dealer said they hadn’t seen that one before.

I always bang on but powerline networking in the house did weird things to my scheduled charging. Almost like the car had gone to sleep. Not familiar with Zappis though

I checked and car clock is accurate at the minute

I have a Zappi too. Your screenshot of your Zappi settings appears to show that you have scheduled selected but no schedule set. I don't have a charging schedule set in the car or iSmart app only on the Zappi app.

Tap the + inside the circle to set the charging schedule.

Thanks for taking a look. The Zappi engineer checked and said all looked fine on the settings.
I had a very short schedule set on that screen shot from yesterday so I could test with the engineer whether or not it started charging. The grey clock indicates I believe the schedule is set then when the start time is reached this clock changes colour to blue.
The only time the schedule charge does come on is if I sit in the car with the key! Which defeats the object of scheduled charging :-(

Yes I do have a TP link networking kit, are you saying that could knock out the scheduled charging?

I posted many many moons ago (I have a vchrgd7 evse). All worked well until the poweline on the poweline networking end in my shed there was a broken earth. Once the earth was established all hell broke lose with scheduled charging.

I’d set the car to charge via the evses own application and all would appear well. When the time came it would display “suspended” on the evse app which is exactly like when the car has finished charging or the schedule has ended. The mg app showed nothing. If I selected start charging in the mg app during the scheduled window it would charge.

Racking my brains at what had changed I narrowed it down to the poweline networking kit. Disconnected it before plugging car in and leaving it off, never had an issue again. 50m of cat6 to replace the link and job done.

All I can assume is the kit (it was tp link also) uses the earth pin for transmission when available, which upsets the car. Can’t remember which signalling pin does it but I believe it pulls it down to “earth” voltage to communicate so if you are unlucky it causes problems.

It won’t cost you anything to check either. Remove all schedules on the car, remove the powerline kit, plug in with a schedule on zappi and see.

That's strange. The time on mine jumped around all over the place last week, 10 minutes wrong so I reset it, the next day 2 hours, I reset it, the next day 24 hours, and i reset it. I havent been out in it for a few days so not sure what it is now.

It had been on auto set for some while before and I'd noticed the time was slowly drifting, so had been set on manual since. I put it back to auto set again and the time immediately was set correctly - perhaps the autoset just sets the time once and doesn't keep it right from then on 🤷.

Hi Gazza,
I've been away a few nights, back now so will try to schedule charge tonight with TP Link unplugged- I'll post an update tomorrow
