Yeah
Seems like it is a (wipe on, rather than spray) coating. I'd be curious how they can offer a 20 year warranty - need to see some fine print. AFAIK, 9 year coatings are the current bleeding edge. Must be regular top ups (recoats?) required to get to 20 years.

Can't really complain for a free upgrade, of course, although I do like to do a wax job myself. Wish it was ceramic tinting, though...
I looked through the paperwork but of course now I can't find anything about it. It's listed on the invoice as Gardx Exterior & Interior Protections (GardX Protect)

It definitely extended the warranty on the paint, but every warranty comes with handy caveats, handy for the dealership of course.

Interesting. The dealer told me the car needed cleaning, so I couldn't pick it up today, and Saturday is the next opportunity. Makes me wonder how any coating was applied if the car wasn't pristine... Anyway, if it's clean, I can give it a thorough inspection, and a couple of extra days to sort insurance, payment etc will come in handy.

I have my pickup scheduled for tomorrow (finally!). Wondering what experience drivers on here have had with the so-called "Phantom" braking and LKA/EKA issues. The Aussie Owners Facebook is riddled with people complaining, but I'm not sure if there is a particular reason this is occurring, or something in the way they are driving.

For reference, I have the same systems in the Focus. The LKA gives you a gentle tug from time to time, but none of this spearing you off the road business. As for the AEB, I get the occasional warning alarm (usually when a car in front of me is in the process of turning out of my lane), but it's never actually activated.

Not overly worried, just wondering whether this is overblown, especially among drivers who aren't used to these systems, or are driving too close to the lines etc.

I have LKA in my 2018 commodore, and it's easy to live with in metro areas, but on narrow unmarked country roads it's a big safety issue, it can try to throw you off into a big karri tree.
My MG4 is probably livable in the city, but compared to the commodore it's very rough. even on the lowest setting. My wife hates it, she feels intimidated by it. I much prefer driving without it, my wife won't drive with it.
I haven't had an issue with AEB, but that maybe because it's permanently off, I don't know, forget how I set it.

It doesn't take long to do the "flight system checks" We both turn off LKA before driving, and I turn on OPD

Have you had any "experiences" yourself, JamesRR?
Yeah, I've had the LKA try and steer me away from the correct line a few times, but not "dangerously". I still will have the software updated to a version with less intrusive LKA when I get a chance, but it's not an imperative.
I do a lot of long distance country driving at good speed so use ACC all the time. I prefer the ACC on the Polestar I hire regularly when I'm interstate and not with our car, but the MG4's not terrible IMHO.
Could be better, and I believe a later version will prove so.

*I also need to add that I haven't yet been able to test the ACC/LKA of the latest MY24 "51" we just bought. It appears to run different firmware/software to that run by our MY23 "77". I want to test the LKA functionality on a specific part of the M8 multi-lane WestConnex tunnel system that causes my 77 to barf at certain points.

Thanks for your input. I guess I'll see how it goes - hopefully it mirrors my current experience with the Focus.
Just keep a normal grip on the wheel and you'll be right. I find whenever it tries to steer me I override it with ease. It only ever really jerked the wheel once, and I could see how the car would've interpreted that situation the way it did.

I've had one AEB event, and again, although it caught me by surprise, when I checked the dashcam later I realised the car had detected someone stepping out from behind a bus stop. Had I seen that I would've let off the accelerator as well, but I was focused on the car next to me drifting over the line. So really, the system did what it was supposed to, just perhaps a little zealous.

Have fun driving! The rapid chargers at RAC HQ near Watertown are a good spot, and if you're with RAC (and link that with the ChargeFox app) you get 20% off.

It seems that MG Australia are doing another $10,000 price cut, this time on the Essence Excite 64kWh models (was 51kWh last September). "Never to be repeated", until next time I guess. December only.

I think they slashed the Excite 64 not the Essence 64. But yeah they’ll keep slashing as and when they want or need to for sure

Finally received my Smurf Grey something-or-other with 2.7km(!) on the ODO and 94%/360km on the range. Now sitting in my garage with about 15km on mixed urban/freeway running on it.

I had a pedestrian walk out about fifty metres or so in front of me on the way home, and the car didn't react. I also had it gently tug at the steering when I evidently got too close to a line, but nothing too excessive.

The dealer says they didn't put tint on it but "ceramic film" - still not sure what that consists of. All four windows do appear to have a consistent moderate amount of tint on them, so maybe I'll have to compare next to another base model to work out what's what.

Overall, two thumbs up so far!

Just drove from 100% today. Of course initially no regen. But surprisingly a small amount of regen started at 98%. At 97% I was getting -14 on the power meter. at 93% I could engage OPD.
So the window to engage friction brakes isn't large. I think this will be enough in a Perth summer, it's easy to get to 100% just on solar power. Winter is a different matter.

Falcon to Mandurah consumption with no regen was around 16kWg/100km. Once on 93% it was down to 15kWh/100km and falling.

After the May updates this year I had OPD at 100%. I was surprised. But who cares. This lasted until October when I crossed the 16k km mark. Than it suddenly no longer worked at 100%. It now comes up again at 97%.
The best explanation I could think of is that the system poorly estimated the 100% beginning May, with some 2-3% charging space actually left over. This got corrected in October by another balancing charge. But I could of course be wrong..

My ER does an average of 15 kWh/100km in the summer as well. Spring and summer averaged at 15,8. With 165 km each day and most of it highway (max. 100km/h). My colleague doing a similar trip with a Kona 2024 does it with 13 kWh/100 km though.

Ultimate Test: can Braumach Spare Wheel safely fit in my MG4 77 boot plus charging cables and holiday luggage?
Like most new cars the MG4 EV is sold without a spare wheel or space saver tyre. So what are you supposed to do if you go on long drives across the country, especially in Australia where towns can be hundreds of kilometres apart?

The slightly more ultimate test will be fitting the full sized wheel with its flat tyre in the boot with that holiday luggage etc. after your wheel change. 🤷‍♂️

Interesting point. It would still fit but because of the increased size we'd lose the rear window visibility and some under boot cables might have to be put in backseat passenger feet area
