Anyone encountered this issue?

Collected my shiny new MG4 yesterday, went to pair up the car with iSmart (I'd already set up an account etc)

Unfortunately, with my Pixel 9 Pro Fold, everytime I went into the app to scan the QR code - as soon as the camera opened, the app crashed. Bit annoying.

I've gotten around this problem by installing the app on a Samsung tablet, logging into my iSmart account, pairing the car, then logging out of the app on the tablet and back in on my phone. Car is all there at that point. But it's a bit of an annoyance all the same.

I've sent feedback via the app - I doubt much will come of it, but this post might be of use to someone.

Updates:

So far, at least 2 of us have this issue with Android 15 and the December 2024 feature drop.

As of the version of iSmart released 02/03/2025 and the March 2025 Pixel Feature drop, the camera seems to work.

I have the Pixel 8 and not had any problems. It sounds like a problem with the phone's camera software and the iSmart app. Have you tried updating the camera software via the Play Store?

I have a Pixel 9 pro. I encountered no issues like that.
I think it's something spefic to the phone itself. Sometimes the camera's a bit odd when it comes to certain apps. Firefox for example, thinks the camera is rotated 90 degrees.

I've also got a P9PF phone, and while my car has been paired to my account since before having this phone -- I can open the QR code scanner in the app perfectly fine. I'm getting to the QR code scan via the account page and the button in the top right.

That's interesting to know, thanks.

Out of interest, which version are you on? I'm on Android 15 with the latest feature drop

I've managed to make a screen recording of the problem:

It actually looks like the feature drop is pending install for me, I'll get updated and see if I can reproduce it later

Yeah, had the android update this morning and the MG ismart app updated itself a few weeks back.

Just tried your tip using another android device to bind the vehicle but my tablet is quite old now so the app isn't supported 😬

There was an update to the app itself yesterday too. Unfortunately, that didn't solve it.

Fingers crossed it gets sorted soon, otherwise it looks like you're going to have to borrow someone else's device to bind the car to your account.

Yes, hopefully.

At least it looks like I can get it paired if I borrow another phone and hope it doesn't keep unbinding like I've seen happen with some other MG ismart users.

Yup same here with the exact issue as above - I've tried even downloading v2.03/05 & 07 of the ismart app but same error, I've reinstalled the camera app and various other steps I've taken..issue ongoing.

As I posted in the other thread, this'll be an incompatibility between the iSmart app code for accessing the camera and the Android 15 security update that's just dropped. (I can't comment on where the fault lies).

Hello people!
Managed to get a Samsung s22 from work to use for the weekend, I've set it up with the mg ismart app and all is good - binded to my vehicle and I was able to then login to my account on my pixel 9 - can see the vehicle stats just as normal now.

Just while I was at it, I tried the same with a pixel 7 in the office that I've got hands on - and issue is the exact same there.

@siteguru yeah seems like some sort of incompatibility between the camera app and the mg app. But specifically on these pixels, which is weird as it runs a native android os that's built for the pixels 😂 don't we all love tech

Hi psybernoid, I have had the exact same problem using a Pixel 8 Pro and the latest December Android updates, with the MG iSmart app crashing the camera. I got the same error with my Pixel Tablet and the bonus of the camera image being always inverted.

Tried rolling back to previous iSmart versions, but no success.

As others have mentioned using another phone, in this case my work Samsung allowed me to bind to the car after a few attempts. I then logged back in with my phone after getting the token expired message and everything appears to be working OK.
