Wireless charging using the 12V/120W outlet in the trunk

Hi,

I'm not taking delivery of my Cyberster GT until March 1st, but since the front USB A and C sockets are only providing 5V/1,5A I was wondering if it is possible to plug a more powerful adapter into the 12V/120W socket in the trunk and run a wire into the cabin to a wireless charger - maybe just placed in the space behind the seats and then use a dongle for wireless Apple Carplay. So the question is - is there a way to run a wire from the trunk to the cabin? I hope it makes sense :)
 
Please help me to understand: Do I absolutely need this dongl or does the mobile phone also pair directly with the car via BT?

It does, but not for Apple Carplay/Android Auto. If you want to use either - you will have to either 1) Connect you phone via a cable to the USB-A port or 2) Use a 3rd party dongle to be able to use Apple Carplay/Android auto wirelessly.

Yes, but it's only 5V/1.5A = 7.5 Watt - so it charges really slow. For comparison the new Apple Magsage wireless charger can charge up to 25 watts or 3 times faster. The outlet in the trunk is 12V/120W - so a lot more powerful.

Then to charge the phone use a wired USB-C which is faster than wireless.

Thanks and I know, but the USB-C in the front is only 5V/1.5A = 7.5 watt, so slow charging (but it might be ok - I just like to fiddle with/optimize my cars :-))

No, I mean a round 12 V outlet. What used to be called a cigarette lighter in the dark ages.

I'll admit that I didn't quickly find one with a search, but surely every modern car has one of these at the front? Then you plug in a 12 V to USB-A or USB-C converter into that, like you would with the extension of the 12 V outlet at the back, if you did it that way.

Or are you saying that the Cyberster has a USB-A or USB-C outlet in the back that has a 12 V 10 A capability? But I thought that USB only went up to 5 A, so to get higher power you need higher voltage, that the other end has to be capable of dealing with.

Got it. As far as I know - there's only a cigarette lighter outlet in the trunk (and it's 12V/120W) - not in the front.

In the front there's only a USB-A and a USB-C - both are 5V/1.5A = slow charging - hence my question.

I have a cigarette lighter type socket in the front inbetween the two usb sockets.

I’m not sure I understand the keenness to have wireless charging and wireless CarPlay in the Cyberster. A simple (good quality) USB-A cable with the massive inconvenience of plugging it into your phone which then sits safely in the slot in the console gives you perfectly good phone charging and CarPlay /AA connectivity. The Cyberster doesn’t seem to have a good place for a contactless charger anyway (someone will no doubt prove me wrong on that).
We have a Renault Zoe too and that has a built-in wireless charging pad so I have a CarPlay /AA wireless dongle to go with it and no wires - so I can understand the interest for the MG but…
