I work in a tyre shop for 6 years now
I can tell you this
If the cord/ply is not visible the tire is completely safe. And there should not be any problems with MOT

I assume this being the side wall it will need replaced. My car was just serviced and reported as having 6mm tread on all tyres. Do you think replacing a single tyre would be okay with this much tread? The MG4 has done just over 2000 miles.

If not, I wonder what tyres would be the best choice for replacing the pair.

That little bit of damage is fine getting dangerous if metal cords are visible
