Campaign for adding "Camping Mode" to MG4

Every previous car I've had I could turn off all lights (except DRLs) ... Insignia, Golf, Astra, Corsa, Escort, Nova (going back chronologically - the Insignia had DRLs, I can't remember if the Golf did [2012]; none of the others did).
 
Eh? I didn't say that at all ... I said that I could drive those cars and turn off all lights (except DRLs). i.e. I replied to the specific wording in your prior post. ?‍♂️

I mean that when all the lights except the DRLs go off in pitch dark that is dangerous because (a) the driver can see bugger-all with only the DRLs on the front and (b) there are no rear lights at all.
 
I think our Citroën with the ignition on behaved just like the MG but with no off feature at all. So if dark front and rear lights are always on.
 
Other EVs I have access to still use a key & ignition barrel (it's odd as you expect an engine to start) they have DRL linked to ignition on

A feature found in the Turkish-made electric car named TOGG is called "Accessory Mode". It's essentially the same as the Camp Mode in Tesla. What is TOGG Accessory Mode? TOGG Accessory Mode is a mode that allows you to use specific features of the electric vehicle TOGG without turning off the main system. With this mode, you can adjust the temperature inside the vehicle, listen to music, monitor the charging status, and perform many other tasks.
  • Climate Control: Adjust the temperature inside the vehicle to keep cool in summer and warm in winter.
  • Ventilation: Refresh the air inside the vehicle for a cleaner, fresher environment.
  • Audio System: Listen to the radio or connect your devices to play music.
  • Lighting: Control the interior and exterior lights.
  • Charging: Charge your smartphone or other devices using the charging ports in the vehicle.
  • Locking System: Lock and unlock the vehicle doors.
  • Window Control: Open and close the vehicle windows.

I realise it's not your preferred solution, and don't let this stop you trying for the perfect solution, but I was thinking about these DRLs again after seeing the solution @Ramontiker, a new member from Germany, had devised.

It seems to me it wouldn't be too difficult to design plastic covers for the lights, which could be 3-D printed. I would have thought that some sort of clip to attach them to the top of the wing, then the bonnet could be closed over to hold them, would eliminate or minimise the need for magnets.

We have some very clever people on the forum, and I'm going to start a thread in the upgrades and accessories subforum to see if anyone is interested in trying it.
 
I’m considering cutting the power cable used for the DRL and inserting a remote-controlled relay like the one in the picture.

In the default position of the remote, the circuit will be close. In this way, the DRLs will remain in their original position unless controlled by the remote.
When I activate it with the remote, the circuit will open, and the DRLs will turn off.
This approach might be a more practical option than covering the lights. I’ll wait a little longer until the weather gets really cold in case a software update arrives. If it doesn’t, I’ll go ahead with my plan.
 
Could you elaborate on this? If I put the car in P then turn off the auto lights (which at least turns off the tail lights, thank God), then the front lights are still blazing. I can't really say what "blazing" means, only that after dark it's serious light pollution and I'm a bit tired of explaining this to uncomprehending neighbours in camp sites who are understandably baffled as to why I'm putting a blindfold on the car.

What is this "sidelight" setting you refer to?

If this is actually a bug, then it would make it a lot easier to press for a fix, I think.

I also think lots of individual letters might have more traction than a single petition.

Indeed, the more I think about this, the more I'm inclined to contact MG and represent this as a bug, along with the other (SE only) bug that still remains after R33 was applied, that is the inability to disable the automatic central locking. However, I could do with a bit more detailed understanding as to the nature of the bug. I think all the lights should go out if I switch off the auto-lights. Is that all it is, when you actually get down to it?
