Car shut down

It happened again at 12 noon when I arrived at a very busy T junction. I pressed the centrally located very large knob on and then off on a couple of occasions. Nothing happened. I was unable to switch the brake on or off. Nor could I move the switch to Drive I had charged the car overnight. The driver's info screen stayed on. I was not aware of the emergency braking, which another person posted. And then suddenly the card decided to move. I have called Perrys MG Aylesdbury

Hi, Being a 87 year old motorist I thought I would call Perry's, Aylesbury to arrange for them to inspect the MG EV4. The earliest date they could offer me was the 7th of April. Do I risk breaking down between now and then. Should I risk driving. If it's not covered under the Warrantee I have to pay them £180.00 for a diagnostic check. How am I to know if it's not a Warrantee issue.
Hi
You can take your car to any MG place you wish, there many small outlet that have lost the wright to sell new car but still do service and repair I would call some of them I bought my car at MG Watford but will use Bushy garage. Look on MG website and look for servicing drop down and there be a list of garages there.

Yep, you don't need to take your MG to the dealer you bought it from. Any MG dealer will do. 🙂👍

This happened to me yesterday at traffic lights. Slight panic as I couldn't restart. I reached for the key fob which I kept in my trouser pocket as I thought the car might have lost communication with the fob. I then powered down on the infotainment screen (Safety Tab), pressed the brake pedal and bingo it started.
Is it possible that it had lost communication with the fob and that I should not keep it in my pocket?

This is a good point, but if the car has been started I think it may carry on working would have through the Key not detected would come up. I have put my key into a Faraday pouch after starting the and been fine.

Once the fob (or Bluetooth key) have been detected, the car should drive until you go in to park. You wouldn't want the car to stop while moving or even fail to pull away from the lights, just because the key was no longer seen by the car.

With the kind of problems you’re having with your MG4. That wait until April 7th is absolutely scandalous. I would be down to the dealers, in person pronto. And it would be sorted. And I wouldn't be paying £180 either. You can't be afraid to drive you car, for fear of it, shutting down at anytime. At busy junctions etc. Suprising what a visit in person can do. And particularly (no offence) when they are aware of your age. 🤬
When I had problems last week with my battery going almost flat and had to get the AA out, I drove to the MG dealer and on the way noted my windscreen wipers were misaligned after the snow and ice and were not working properly. I was almost there so carried on with, fortunately, no visibility problems!

When I got there, at about 15.30, I sat waiting for a while then was told there was nothing they could do until the following day, even though they were open till 18.00. I asked how I could get home safely with defective wipers and they shrugged. I was told if I went to another garage it would invalidate my warranty! Eventually a man from parts kindly sorted my wipers out, but it’s a sad state of affairs when you are limited to using MG, who are too busy to help.

Instead of putting the car into Park by pressing the rotary knob either apply the handbrake, the switch next to the rotary knob, or press the brake pedal to engage auto-hold. To move off again just press the accelerator.

By putting the car into Park you have to press the brake pedal to put it into Drive.
I personally use the handbrake switch next to the rotary knob when stationary for longer than a few seconds. The car remains in drive mode, but unlike auto hold, it turns the brake lights off, (or mine does anyway, I tested it in my drive 😂). I find it quite blinding when all the brake lights are lit up waiting at traffic lights etc.

Call out the AA.

He managed to get it going, both times. So the AA not necessary on those occasions. But yep, if all else fails, the AA it is. The real problem is the MG dealer, not sorting it out, as a matter of emergency. 🤬
I love my MG4 and 30,000 kms on it has been fault free. What I hate is the common issue it seems many have faced in the total rubbish and hit and miss service from MG dealerships. This unfortunately will likely be the single thing that prevents me buying my car at end of lease and likely not buying another MG. A recent example was trying to get a simple answer to service interval requirements. This you would have thought a simple question for a dealer to answer. I got so many different responses mostly that it needs servicing every 10,000kms!! To avoid loss of warranty. I resorted to using the online request to MG for an answer which is the recommended method to get an answer from MG. I even used the chat bot in addition to asking the question. In both cases I was advised I would get an answer from MG. 3 weeks later no response, no email, no phone call, even though I had supplied all forms they could contact me on. Doesn't bode well for more serious issues when they can't answer a basic question such as this and their in country dealer network can't either.. I actually found the information in the online manual (I couldn't find the hard copy manual) via the phone app. Simple to locate and I rang the dealers back and trained them on the service interval and how to advise a customer where to locate it.

Long waits appear to be a too-common occurrence. I was contacted mid-December by my dealer in Portsmouth to inform me it was time for my yearly service. I contacted them and the earliest they could book me in was mid February so I agreed. 2 days later they contacted me to tell me they'd made a mistake and it would now be mid-March but not to worry, it was still within the required warranty date. Again, but reluctantly I agreed. A week later I had a warning light appear (yellow triangle with black exclamation mark) which worried me as there was no guide to what the problem was. I contacted the dealer and asked if they could investigate so that I would know if the car was safe to drive. They agreed and said they would take a look.......at the end of March, which would be after the already late service. I said that wasn't good enough so they gave me an emergency number to phone. That number turned out to be the AA. The man from the AA said he'd come across this before and that the car should be OK to drive as it was only a yellow warning.
I guess the moral of this story is - if you are going to buy a new car, check to see the waiting times for the workshops and if they are excessive avoid them and go elsewhere!
