I recently came to buy a three phase cable for my early MG4 Trophy (which can do 11kW!), and was initially confused by all the different options of cables out there, and the restrictions on speed when combined with the various AC charging points as well!

So it's prompted me to create the following table, which may be useful for others... (I think it is correct! )

Very nice. As per your note, can you do a 2nd table for people with the single phase on-board charger ?

You could modify the cable type descriptions to add the car type variable, but a 2nd table would be much clearer. If I'm right it would be identical to the 3 phase car table but with the bottom 2 lines a duplicate of the 1st 2 lines.

If you're single phase you would just use the top two lines (single phase cables), and would be limited by the car's internal charger to 7kW.

With an 11kW on board charger, even with a 32a 3 phase cable, connected to a 22kW 3 phase charger you would still only get 11kW. Allowing for losses, this equates to about 9.6kW shown in iSmart when charging. I'm basing this on my own experience using a 32a 3 phase cable with the 22kW 3 phase chargers at work, and my SE LR which also has 11kW on board charger.

So bottom right of your table should be 11kW

I think @Seajays intent is for the table to be non car specific. His footnote covers the situation of 22kW chargers with a 11kW car.

I understand, I was just thinking of most new MG owners who would be less sure of the situation of a single phase car with a 3 phase input. However I think most owners will realise a single phase car will introduce the same limitations as a single phase cable pretty quickly so all's good.

Very well explained Seajays.
There will be a great number of people who will find the table very interesting as it really explains that even though you might have a 3 phase cable, depending on your on board charger, and the rating of the cable you might not get the charging power you would expect.
Mine is a Trophy LR with 3 phase charging. Unfortunately I used MG's brochure information before I took delivery when I bought the cable, which said it was single phase 7kW. So an expensive 3 phase, 32A replacement cable would be required to achieve the full 11kW, and maintain the 7kW single phase compatibility. So it's probably not worth the outlay for the number of 11 or 22kW charging stations there are compared to 7kW.
