MG5 Steering - a concern or not?

I'm inclined to agree. I've been doing identical motorway journeys for the last few weeks and it's certainly intermittent - sometimes I have completely trouble free journeys. One thing I know for certain is that it goes away after even a very short break at the services.

I had this yesterday in my FL5 Trophy on the A1 near Stamford. First time I’ve noticed it. I was also having infotainment issues (couldn’t change volume, lost all bass) so you do wonder if it’s software. It does feel like a little hint of lane assist type resistance.

Interesting that yours is a facelift, I think myself and others here all have the pre-facelift. And yes I think it’s something to do with the lane assist, or something certainly electrical related rather than tyres or something mechanical. All this week as well I’ve not had the issue once, absolutely no rhyme or reason to it.

Likewise mine has stopped
I am sure it will reappear soon.

Might try deactivating lane assist completely next time it happens

Mine is a pre-facelift. Didn't happen at all on my latest journey, in fact really hasn't been a bother for the last few motorway journeys. The idea that it might be connected with lane assist is interesting. I don't use lane assist all - I tried it once with another car and hated it - so it has always been off on my MG. However last winter I had a strange experience at the end of a long journey on a motorway where lane assist decided to activate itself. The last few miles off the motorway on regular roads everything reverted to normal. Never happened since.

I have just seen a post on FB that the Steering Column Module has been replaced to cure this issue.
Has anyone had this done or waiting for parts?

Definitely the MG5? I only ask because I know the ZS had some sort of issue with steering columns being replaced. Don’t think it was this same problem though.

I think you might be referring to our post. We did not have any infotainment problems or lane assist issue or clicking. One morning the car wouldn't start. The steering wheel was unlockable. We got those warnings saying HV shut off ect. We did the things like disconnecting battery ect but it didn't work. It went to dealer who did a software update and it stopped working 36 hours later. It went back to dealer who contacted MG UK who advised replacing steering column module. It's only been 2 days. The dealer was good. AA were good. Enterprise car hire were good so the experience wasn't awful.

I had mine in the dealers for a power steering code and the notchy issue.

They updated several modules after talking to mg technical and we shall see if it has made any difference

Recently during most long motorway journeys after about an hour or more

Off motorway on any other type of more twisty road was fine
