Rear washer stopped working - brake system to be stripped to repair

My rear washer water stop a few week ago, taken in to garage today for repair which could not be done by the poor technician who was pulling his hair out. A pipe has come off on the back wall in the engine bay up in the right corner next to the brake servo, from here to the back the pipe runs in the wiring loom and he could get hold of the end that had come off but could not get it to come down to fit the other end. They will need to have the car back to drain the brake system and strip out the servo to repair the pipe, the thinking is that the pipe in the wiring loom was cut short. Still a good car and still very pleased with it.

My daughter has just had this problem - the disconnection of the pipe in the engine compartment. Her local MG dealer said £130 +VAT for them to do a diagnostic check and see what it is. If it is just reconnecting the pipes they can do that but if it's something else it'll cost more to sort. They're having a laugh, surely?

Why the diagnostic check when we all know what's wrong. I can see this costing her a small fortune.

The car is under warranty but they said it's not a warranty job.

I had a look at the weekend but the access is too tight for my big hands. I feel sure an old skool mechanic and a set of forceps would be able to do the job, or maybe someone has worked out a way to do it themselves?

Or does anyone know a small mech on the west side of Birmingham or thereabouts who wouldn't charge an arm and a leg?

Just let you know when my technician did my car he put in a extension tube as the one in the wiring loom is a bit short and putting in the extension takes the strain off the tube.


You need to use stronger mix of screen wash, I use auto glym screen wash and make it up myself and and had no problems over this cold spel.

It’s the only car that I have had that pops the pipe. And seems to be so for many other owners.
MG are fixing with a pipe extension because of the fault and charging customers £130 for the pleasure.
