I grew up driving over the hilly terrain of a sheep property in Southern NSW and know something of what a vehicle can do, but I have treated my MG4 with kid gloves for some reason, yet it seems that it is a car that can take a bit of rough stuff.
This video from Nepal has been the stimulus for the question: how do you treat your MG4?

I’m not going to go Paddock Bashing as we call it in Australia but I’ve had to rethink the way I’ve treated my car with undue care in the first year of ownership.
Any stories from the community about where you’ve taken your MG?

Traction control off in the gravel is so much fun!

But to be honest that was just a one off for the photo. I don’t really drive the car differently from my ICE cars in the past, with maybe the exception that I am more wary of bottoming out or scraping the underside on high curbs because I don’t want to damage the battery.

Watching the first bit of that video though, maybe I too should have a little more faith in its capabilities on unsealed roads…

I guess the battery is one thing that has influenced my driving but the video has changed my mind.

This is the first time I have ever had a brand new car, never mind an EV...so I treat it with kid gloves, to the point where if I accidentally scuff the interior bottom of the door with the sole of a trainer, the microfibre cloth is out immediately. I crawl over speed bumps, ease it round corners, stay away from gravel and use every control gently as though it's about to break.

I suspect this may change once the inevitable stone chips start appearing.

Since this is my first EV I'm probably a bit more cautious with it than I need to be. I try to drive fairly economically (with the occasional hoon!).
I charge to 80% once a week, with a 100% balance charge once every couple of months or before a longer journey.
Treat it a lot better than my previous cars that's for sure :ROFLMAO:

(y) we need to see a timed lap from Gwyndaf's Bricktop's windscreen cam with his wife shouting "flat past chicken coops into 3 left, tightens, don't cut..... caution buzzard"

Yep, and their names on the rear door windows. 🙂👍

The married woman I live with wants to do a lap (drive around Australia) and we’ll do it in the MG staying at pubs mostly but will bring the swag just in case. I think that may ‘cure’ me of any tentative feelings about the car but I am considering what tyres to use and possibly a roof-rack to carry a spare.

We’re building out of the metro area and my daily commute will be a 110km round trip, I’m planning on swapping the rims out and fitting run flats, just so it’ll afford me a chance to drive it to a tyre shop if I ever pick up a puncture.

I’m changing the rims for aesthetic reasons mainly, but also because in the OE tyre size all I’ve found is a Pirelli run flat, which is not my preferred brand, and also a non-repairable run flat.

That said I think a spare on the roof would be a welcome addition if I was going far and wide.

Spotted this roof rack (maybe not really a rack) on PlugShare on a MG4 charging in Northam;

Different regions, different needs, I have a BMW Z4 which had run flats, in the UK on tarmac, it was like driving on dirt 24x7

True, you risk losing a bit of comfort with a run flat, but the sealed roads I’ll be on are pretty rough anyway, I think I’m willing to trade some ride comfort for the comfort of knowing I won’t get stranded 😅

I remember when I still sold tyres, we had a customer come in with a BMW (can’t remember if it was a Z4) and they wanted to get rid of the run flats as they never left town anyway, and they also complained about the harsh ride.
