Display console blistering

I’ve had the exact same - 68 plate too! Blistered after the recent cold weather in January. MG quoted £600 on the phone to replace as a rough guide (parts only not labour). Dreadful!

Hi. I have had the same problem any idea what can be done? The screen protection is slowly peeling off especially when it's really cold in the morning but hoping it will not affect the rest of it .

One for Martin Lewis perhaps. SOGA rights may apply.
What is Soga rights pls? Rg

In addition to this. Mg offered to replace the system at a cost of 2500. They also admitted that if done nothing to cause the blistering but that they couldn’t explain the cause of the issue. I’m currently asking them to now investigate bubbles in my windscreen!

Could you please post some photos? Also, might be worth searching for independent repair place, there might be some that could replace the screen only ...

Check out eBay, head units, although secondhand I guess on sale for around £200.
Do we know for sure that the screen is "just a screen".

Some manufacurers have done these dirty tricks where every electronic module including screens, are software locked to the car they came in and they can either not be reprogrammed or can only be reprogrammed by MG.

They say it is to theft protect them, because they are not worth stealing if they can not be used, but in reality this is done to make sure people dont buy second hand, used at the scrapper, but HAS to buy a new one from the manufacturer.

I had that on my old Peugeot radio/CD player ages ago, it's standard thing to code to the car and then rip you off if something goes wrong ...

Can you post some photos please? When you say "screen protection", you mean a sticky transparent film that protects the screen underneath?

Yeah i dont know if the screen is just a screen in this case, i just wanted to raise the issue to have someone possibly confirm it it can indeed be swapped without "coding" because it would be a bummer going to a scrapper, getting a screen, just to have it say "This screen is not coded to this car" or even worse, just a blank screen and have to go to MG just to be told, they can not "divorce"/"factory reset" the screen and the only option is to pay MG for a new one.

I have seen instances where someone was able to buy a replacement screen because their old one had cracked, and then transplant the circuit board from the knackered one into the working one (So only the LCD itself was replaced, the control PCB was reused)

I wonder if one of these phone repair places could replace the actual glass, if you could take it off ?

Only if they had a replacement touch panel.

The "glass screen" is not just a piece of glass, it's has a layer on it to sense where you touch it.

Only if one could buy the front of the screen, with plastic and everything, would this make sense i think

Mine has done exactly the same. Few bubbles over many months but now totally cracked look all over. Cannot see/use it in the sunshine. If you rub it with your finger tiny flakes come off. It's a 2018 petrol.

Google Gemini AI (I don't know its accuracy) says that this is the protective film, and that you should carefully peel it off completely to prevent damage to the screen.

I wonder if this is a Pre Delivery Inspection failure.

My suggestion is to research this issue carefully.

If you look at the bottom right corner, it looks like protective film that started peeling off at the edges. Try puling it off and see what happens - and let us know please !

As mentioned above it started with blisters in the cold weather, ok beforehand. then while using the screen the protective cover just started to peel off in seconds and as a result only the little bits remained as the rest of the sparkling bits all came off, really scary especially because when I turned the car on the horizontal line appeard at the top which was even worse. Any clue what is that? They advised the same it's not covered under the warranty and anyway it's 5 years old .
