We have been told by two dealers in Devon that numbers of ZS (and MG 5) are low now because MG is replacing them with a new model. Two said they can't get any more new. One at Drive Weston super Mare only had two new left. Eden Motors and Baylis Gloucester still have a choice of colours. MG are giving £11k off list price of £32k, approximately.
The LHD models have had their prices slashed a lot here.
Cost for a ZS EV LR Trophy connect prior to December 20 was £30.000 and now they are down to £22.200
I was told that officially they just lowered the price to compete, but unofficially it was to clear a rather large stock of LHD ZS EV's because of the launch of the successor.
Right now the base model is sold out in white and the LR Trophy variant is sold out in black.
We ordered a LR Trophy Connect December 27 and it was delivered within a month.
The new model of ZS EV is RWD because it will be based on the new MG4 platform.
This model will be designed from the ground up and built, to be a full BEV.
The original Gen1 ZS EV was MG’s first “toe in the water” approach into a full BEV.
Released to gauge the response in the European market for a full BEV.
So, they simply adapted / electrified the then current ICE version of the original ZS model.
The price point was extremely reasonable by offering temping introductory incentives/ discounts etc.
The model was only available in two trim styles but only a single battery size.
As the demand out stripped the supply, the huge discounts reduced quickly.
Its success then encouraged MG to face lift the original Gen1 model, into the current Gen2 model and it was offered in two battery sizes, standard range and long range.
I expect the new 25/26 model of the ZS EV will obviously be in a SUV style, but is likely to resemble a “pumped up” version of the current MG4 with a higher ground clearance.
A lot of other manufacturers adopt this type of stance now.
Adopt a single running platform that can utilise alternative body shell designs.
This way they can quick switch / satisfy the current demands in the market for a particular model / shape.
The first sign that the current Gen2’s production run was reaching an end in the market, was when MG started producing cars without the full pano / sky roof feature in the car.
The out going Gen2 model is being offered at a great price point right now.
I personally expect dealers to be taking delivery of the new model very shortly and they need to shift stocks of the Gen2 model ASAP.
Here one of the key difference between the base "Comfort" trim level and the "Luxury" trim level was always the pano roof.
They seem to have altered the trims on the fly, my take is, this has more to do with availability of parts than anything. For example in the beginning you could have.
Comfort with 1 Phase charger
Comfort with 3 phase charger
Luxury with 3 phase charger
Then they suddenly also had Luxury with 1 phase charger and then they removed the option for 3 phase charger for Comfort trim.
I dont think they ever had a "luxury without pano roof" here and the one we just bought also has it.
