I went back to Glyndebourne last weekend for an Open Day and I'm really glad I didn't decide to try sleeping in the car. On the way down the temperatures were sub-zero, then Storm Bert hit...
My main issue was holdups on the M6. I had to move to the northbound service station at Tebay to get a charger, but there are 12 there and I got straight on. Trentham Gardens was its usual perfect self. At Cherwell Valley two of the six Gridserves were broken, the six new ones weren't commissioned, and the 50 kw charger was delivering 22 kw. Like an idiot I waited for one of the four working Gridserves, and only later discovered that ZapMap has these chargers rated at - 69 kw. I forgot there are four chargers at Baynards Green only about a mile away, and even on 7% I could have got there. As a result of all this I was late for dinner at my hotel but they fed me anyway.
The PodPoints at Glyndebourne brought Caliban up to 100% and balance while I was at the workshops and demonstrations, and I was on 98% when I got back to my hotel in Lewes.
On the way back I went straight to Baynards Green where the bloody charger rejected my debit card but took my credit card. (Kempower chargers do this too.) Trentham Gardens was fine except there was a queue to get seated in the coffee shop, and of course going north at Tebay was fine too.
900 miles over three days.
Here's the view while charging at Baynards Green, in the middle of Storm Bert. I didn't go over to the petrol station as there's a McDonald's just out of shot on the left.
Addendum. I checked ZapMap and ABRP this evening, a week later, and I see that the fenced-off Gridserves at Cherwell Valley are now showing as operational, and all 12 chargers (excluding the old Electric Highway ones of course) are rated at 175 kw. Still a couple of broken units, but ten available rather than four. Looks as if I was just unlucky with the timing.
