Had my 45,000 mile third service done today and when booking it in they tried to get me to pay £40 for brake pipe cleaning to prevent future corrosion 🤷. I asked if this would include stripping down and greasing the brakes and they said no.

While it was being serviced they called to say it needs new rear disks and pads at about £440 to which I said yes as I was expecting this having had them as an advisory at the 30k service. They then said - we don't have the disks in stock and will take up to 5 days to get them - I am amazed that a main dealer doesn't have them in stock!

They also wanted £110 to top up the Aircon and £80 for a wheel alignment as the wear warranted the alignment check. I said no to both of these and looking at the attached tyre report I am glad I did as all 4 tyres are wearing perfectly evenly, the only thing I would do is swap the wheels front to back to even up the wear.

It's no wonder that dealers get a bad reputation due to upselling completely unnecessary work.

I will now get a quote from Cleevely for the disk and pad replacement.

Yep, typical upselling BS, some might call it attempted robbery TBH. The ' brake pipe cleaning' is a new one though
Can you not find a machine shop that will skim your discs ? I know they get scabby but I would imagine they will have at least one tickle in them before they hit the min thickness limit.

Pads are probably good till at least 100k, rub the friction material with a bit of sandpaper on a flat surface and bingo, fully reconditioned :)

Really? I generally go through 3/4 sets of pads before considering discs & never had pads last anywhere near 100k

Pads & discs are a known issue with a lot of electric car drivers
I personally still drive like it's my old turbo petrol car so probably won't have the issues eco hunters get

HVAC I only do if there's low pressure shutoff

Tyres have you visually checked them?

My dealer offered brake pipe cleaning too when I booked it in for its second service. Makes you wonder how I managed to get all my previous cars, some over 10 years old, without having a MOT failure because of dirty brake pipes.

For £30 I was also offered MOT protection up to £500 but it doesn't cover serviceable parts i.e. the brake pads and discs aren't included.

I was told yesterday I needed 3 replacement tyres when mine went in for its first service (8,000 miles). I declined their kind offer as I'm pretty sure the remaining 5mm (even wear across them) will last a little while yet.
