MG4 Undertray dip/bulge

I'm fairly sure that some ER models have had undertray issues, and the ER came out at the same time as the X-Power. I know for certain that some later SR and LR cars have had the issue, as I've taken a peak under the showroom cars whenever I've been at my dealer. (In fact, I'm pretty sure the showroom X-Power I looked at last November had a warped undertray).

Mine is a Jan 2024 build so I don’t think it is an age thing. The dealer said there is a batch of cars with trays that’ll bulge, but I also don’t fully believe that.

I think they can’t be bothered to really fix it because it doesn’t present on enough cars to warrant the costs of redesign and new parts. As long as it’s cheaper to fit the bracket on a few cars, I think we’ll see the occasional MG4 with a dippy tray.

I can confirm this with my ER.

A quick update here - I also mentioned elsewhere (in the Dealer discussion). I will summarise: Initially the engineer took a look (and sent me a video of his examination of the vehicle) and said "theres a little gap there but its nothing to worry about". I thought oh goodness here we go.

When the service person came over to tell me my car was all done and it was "fine", I showed them the document on my phone and they said "oh well, thats not what your car has thats just plastic not the subframe".

I asked to speak to the engineer (after a bit of resistance they agreed), who when shown the same document said they'd never seen it. I sent it to his email and he advised he'd contact MG..........

As someone who dislikes confrontation this was incredibly stressful. I will be emailing MG directly myself to prompt the dealership to fix it.

I may have missed posts with this but has there been any X Powers reported with the saggy under tray?
Yes ours had (purchased in March 24 but car built in Aug 23) - asked for the 'bodge' bracket to be fitted at one of our numerous warranty visits - was fitted without argument in September

Did you actually say "bodge bracket" that would be really funny. 😂
Yes - I have a good rapport with the MG master-tech at the dealer - we're on first name terms due to the amount of time I've had to spend there. He instantly knew what I meant by this description!

My car have this issue two places, yet passes trough every service without ever getting mentioned by the dealer.
Dealers won't do it, unless you ask.
I would suggest if it bothers you like it does me, that you find the document related to the issue from MG and ask your dealer to fix.
Agree.

Pick up brand new Monday 3 of March and still being sent out with this problem. It just spoils what should be a good experience. It that old problem within the car trade that will do I can’t be bothered.
I got mine a few weeks ago with very minor bulge. I am going to watch it and if it does not get worse wait until 1st service to address it.

A quick further update, I managed to get MG customer service to contact my Dealership directly and request that the work is done. The dealership has requested sight of the technical notice (which I've already provided, but whatever) and they will raise a "technical case" with MG to confirm the notices voracity before doing the repair.

They are going to be a bit frustrated by my insistence on this most likely, but I must admit I'm utterly flabbergasted at the hoops I've had to jump through for a fix that takes what, 30 minutes?

Why they think anyone would make up a technical notice is beyond me. It feels like they are trying to make it stressful on purpose.

So, I'm going to call the dealership again.......

It’s crazy what you have to go through sometimes. I would also be tempted to look for another dealer for future use even if a little further away.

We are absolutely going to do that. Unfortunately, they've lost my trust. You'd have thought having just got a few thousand out of me they'd be more attentive. My next nearest is Brighton 25 or so miles away. What a faff.
