TAILGATE DOES’NT LOCK. Please check yours?

I found this on first night I had the car. Put the key in a Faraday pouch and all works fine. I found it seems to be Ok once key was about 5m away.

Hi all. Yesterday I took my ZS Hybrid+ to the dealership and they checked for software updates and found one, which they applied. However, it concerned the navigation system, which I don’t use as I use Apple CarPlay.
Regarding the PD052 software update, they knew nothing about it. They are trying to discuss with MGUK, I must admit I’m not overly confident regarding a satisfactory outcome.
They also investigated the water in the near side door mirror lighting strip and have ordered a replacement part, this will be done under warranty.
I also drew the service managers attention to the fact, that when you lock the car, the tailgate remains UNLOCKED. He tried everything to get it to lock, but failed. He then walked away from the car holding the key fob, unlocking and locking it. However, it was not until he was 25 metres away, that the tailgate locked! He then explained that this was how it works.
I responded, so if you park outside of your house, a pub or shop, and go in, the tailgate remains unlocked. His suggestion was that I carry the key fob around in a metal box, I assumed he was joking.
This morning I went out to the car, leaving the key fob inside, the tailgate was unlocked, and had been all night.
They are looking into the matter…………
Hi, go to Halfords and get a faraday pouch and you will find this probably will stop it at that distance.

My wife sat in the car today with both keys and locked the doors with the inside buttons next to the drivers door latch.
I walked to the boot and tried to open it and it was locked, so it would appear that if you were sitting inside a locked car no one could gain access from the boot.

The engine was off at this point.

Unfortunately I'm still in the car park because she wouldn't open the doors again. 😁

Firstly I don’t consider it to be necessary to have to purchase a Faraday pouch to overcome a problem. And secondly if I did this I would have to extract the key fob every time I needed to unlock the car.

I stood at the boot today (without my keys) while my wife walked slowly towards me.
I heard the boot unlock when she was just past the rear door.
Only problem is the boot would never be locked while you are in the car because you would have your keys with you (unless it locks while the #engine# is running).
It does lock while engine is running. Driver door unlock or engine stop opens it.

"Internal" door lock...

I'm sure these are simple electronic problems that will be resolved. Only the high rev problem remains, which will have to be finally eliminated by the manufacturer.
Drive on good roads.

Not sure why, but mine is now working perfectly.
Key at about 1metre and it unlocks.
I’m pondering on how this works.
(1) The key (continually day and night) sends a signal every few second seconds, and the car listens for it, and unlocks the tailgate. But surely this will run the key battery down.
(2) The car sends a signal every few seconds, and the key listens for that. At about 1 metre the signal is strong enough to trigger the key, which responds, and the tailgate unlocks. But surely this will also run the key battery down.
Thoughts?
Cheers Noel.

Surely all vehicles, all models that have keyless entry work in the same way as this.

Agreed, but as the keys only have a button cell, you’d think the constant current draw would have an effect. Perhaps the fact that you don’t need to use a key to unlock and lock this car, makes the difference.

Yes I agree with what you say (and I am only guessing), but all keyless entry vehicles would have a similar key battery drainage.

In most cases (in my personal experience) the battery only requires replacing every 3-4-5 years.

Once again in full agreement, especially as I can’t see a solution which does not impose a constant current draw.
The ZS hybrid benefits from utilising the most efficient keyless operation, and if the button cells do last 3-5 years, I concede whoever designed it is very clever.
The CR2032 coin cell battery possesses high energy density. It uses manganese dioxide lithium chemistry to provide appropriately 225 mAh capacity.
Given the above, if we could measure the current draw, it should be possible to calculate how long a cell would last.
But it’s dark and too late 🥱

I'd never thought about it before, until reading this thread. But, if that is what happens, whereby constantly sensing, it really is very clever. It must be the the way it works, unless anyone can tell us any different.

Hi. My daughter has Mercedes A class, and I’ve been reading how their “Keyless Go”system works.
The fob stops transmitting when it is stationary, this has two advantages, the battery last a lot longer, and it also stops car thieves stealing the unlock code.
Perhaps ours also do this, it would make sense.

Very clever.

I wonder if this is the same in the MG?
