I have the same problem after the software updated to R38 today. The screen shows to follow the instruction on my phone but there is no instruction on my phone. It was working before the software update.
Any idea? anyone?
Thanks

That's identical symptoms to those reported in this thread:

I also got a new phone and had the same problems a few days later. I did get it to work after trying a lot of different things and can confirm that you should get a screen pop up on the phone. I don't know if the OP ever got theirs working.

Edit: I should add that I don't know which thing or combination of things finally made it work.

Make sure the phone's not locked. The first few times I started the car, I had to manually unlock the phone to start Android Auto. After a while it just started working properly.

I had something very similar, the car said go to the phone to finish set up. On the phone I did get a notification, but when i clicked on it nothing happened.

After much trying I went to the settings on the phone, went to apps and cleared the cache and user data from the android auto app, that fixed the issue.

I tried clearing the cache and reboot the phone but no luck. However my wife's phone works, just by clicking continue on her phone after plug-in the cable.

We have the same version of Android Auto but her phone is Android 14, mine is 11. We have same brand of phone, she has the newer version.

Is there a minimum support version of Android for R38?

My AA was working well until my mg4 was serviced last week. The car's software was updated (the outside temp wasn't showing on display).

AA didn't work anymore, the dealer started by telling me the cable needs replacing, then my phone is too old or the software is not compatible with the mg update, and sent me on my way....

My phone's software was up to date, AA was the latest version, I cleared the cache and force stopped AA, then restarted it. Also rebooted the phone.

In the end, via Playstore, I uninstalled AA then reinstalled it, worked straight away.

Thanks Dave. It is working now eventually.
After a few times to uninstall and re-install via playstore, then reboot the car. I was getting issues with the Bluetooth and black screen. The phone came up different messages after re-installing. I have no idea why it is working now. Just keep trying.

Force a stop of the AA app, then clearing the cache and disk, then try again, normally fixes this. No need to uninstall/reinstall.

I haven't been able to get either of our phones (Pixel 7 and Pixel 9 Pro) on ours... ever. My old, old Pixel 4a works (not updated), but nothing newer. Have tried all the fixes, no luck. :(
