New MG ZS Hybrid+ Trophy

OK. Hi, there are some tips and tricks to Hybrids esp if you are not too familiar with them.
If the hybrid battery is low the engine will rev to refill it. If you are stealing power from the engine for Heater and AC it has to work harder. For gradients and hills choose Sport mode
. Regen 1,2 or 3 for going downhill depending on severity of slope. Braking also is regenerating the battery.
I too have the high revving problem. Today no hills and window open 1cm only steering wheel on ( works off 12v not hybrid battery) achieved 65 mpg 88 mins of driving. It gets better as car is run in and car temp gauge is 3 or 4. (See bottom Right)
Hit pages button, right centre on s wheel. Silver toggle over to right x 2 I think? Just past tyre pressure display. Then toggle up or down there are four useful screens there.
Read my previous posts.
MG have acknowledged and confirmed there is an issue with the model which they are discussing with the manufacturers to establish a fix - this is in relation to the over revving and hills. However, I don't have issues driving up hills, its on any road, surface or gradient. I have not AC/heating on either yet it still over rev, even at times when I'm not accelerating! So whilst the tips are great... they aren't going to work I'm afraid and I'm still carless!

It's Sh1T it's such a good car except for this problem which Australia in higher temperatures is having too. When you say MG is trying to sort a fix is that the dealer or MG head office in Birmingham that has acknowledged that?

Who in MG has acknowledged the problem? Mg uk or your dealer , thanks

I have ordered a ZS Hybrid Trophy yesterday, expect to pick it up in about 2 weeks, thanks to all who have answered my questions and allowed me to make this choice, I asked the dealer with all the latest updates have been installed, he said it will have every update available before collection, will update after I have driven it for a few weeks, got a good price for my car and a very good discount on the new car.

Like Bruno, I’m taking delivery of a ZS Trophy in March.

I didn’t have a car to p/ex but was offered the car for the list price of the SE, which seemed a reasonable deal.

I also asked the dealer ( Chorley Group) about possible software updates and they said with the car being brand new, all necessary updates will have been done at the factory. I hope this is true.

The test drive I had a couple of weeks ago was enjoyable and seemed like a nice car. I went on a mixture of roads/ motorway but didn’t go on any uphill stuff. All seemed good. Any engine noise was only apparent on accelerating down the M slip road and also when overtaking from 50 to 70 mph. The car was set to Normal, regen 2.

I’m obviously a bit apprehensive about the problems people report and I watched the podcast yesterday which didn’t do a lot to allay my fears .

I guess most owners with no problems don’t tend to post in the forum, so you just see the problems.

I’ll update when I’ve had a chance to drive it. 🤞

That is true for any car forum. Usually only problems get posted, and also there only people who actually know about that and are actually willing to sign up and post. So whilst initially going through any car forum, even at Toyota you might get the initial impression that the model is a complete lemon, but the sample we are looking at is really small usually, and typically from the "problem" corner of the spectrum.

Usually if there is a recall, SW update or change of a part in production you can assume it is an actual issue, like here the PD052 story, or VW ID infotainment, or Hyundai/Kia EGMP ICUs. But probably the vast majority of stuff on forums is not much of an issue for the average driver.

Regarding “But probably the vast majority of stuff on forums is not much of an issue for the average driver.”
Admittedly the ZS Hybrid + is great value, but losing power when trying to overtake, is more than an inconvenience. The other problems are not major. However, if you pay £24,500 for something, you expect it to work as advertised.

This is why I mentioned the PD052 update, as this indicates that it is an actual issue; Together with a few other examples ( I could add any engine with a wet timing belt). Forums make everything seem problematic, and occasionally hard to filter out the actual problems.
Thus my "if there is a recall, update etc. comment.

If there was a major issue with over revving I am very surprised that this has not been highlighted by numerous car reviewers. At Less I am missing something the majority of reviews are very positive and mg are selling a lot of these. Whilst I appreciate some cars will come with problems a lot of people will be having trouble free driving and until if ever this becomes a major recall mg do not really have to do anything as it is probably only a small minority compared to the amount sold at less people are driving round with blinkers on or not aware of the driving habits off the car. I personally like mine and would recommend it to anyone thinking of buying one. Most updates would only be carried out on a service at less highlighted before and that is only if mg have recognised it.

I have not taken delivery of the MG ZS + Trophy yet, I decided to wait for a factory fresh car, I contacted MG to ask if it will have all the software updates available, this is a copy of the reply,

Good afternoon

Thank you for contacting MG customer care.

Unfortunately, I cannot say whether your vehicle will be delivered with the requisite updates, however, should you have an issue with the vehicle it can be booked into the dealership for a software upgrade.

Kind regards,

I sent another message asking if all software updates should be done during the pre-delivery inspection, that has not been answered, I also mentioned that the dealer had not heard of the PD052 update?

Software updates will only be done once you have taken delivery of the car .MG will only update after you have driven the new car out of the forecourts.I would not take delivery of the car until the updates are done and insist they are done.

Just received this from MG CS

Good afternoon,

I would advise contacting the dealership for any information regarding the pre-delivery inspections.

Hi
New member today, I have test driven a MG ZS+ Trophy and after reading reviews and watching youtube videos I wondered if anyone could tell me if they have encountered problems when buying a new car, google searches show MG as unreliable but obviously the dealers will refute that, so I decided to ask genuine owners for their honest opinion, I have been offered a deal and may be ordering on the 19th Feb, so any advice would be appreciated.
thank you.
Due to my , renault captur e tech engineered 145hp auto and full hybrid being stuck in the dealers for nearly a month due to a noise from the auto box, I've had 2 new mg zs trophy plus auto hybrids. I cannot fault the cars , very powerful, just under 200 hp combining both the 1.5 turbo and hybrid. Excellent fuel economy. I only have 1 issue. As with all these modern cars you don't get a cd player, just usb or usb c ports. I have an expensive external cd on usb. Works perfectly on the menu, works perfectly with Mercedes gla. But not with any of the mg,s . It has 1 usb but that only accepts memory sticks and then only certain types of format, all the isb c ports are just power supplies. Which mean I'm stuck with a radio that hardly works. I live in Cumbria so very little signal, so I either get static or just road noise. I almost bought one , mg, last year instead of my renault. I'm so glad I chose the renault, as all my music is on cd, over 200 of them I've tried copying some cds through my pc and then copying them to a use memory stick. And guess what, the mg doesn't even recognise it. Buy as I say it's the only issue I've had with mg zs trophy

Yeh I think the USB port is certainly not the most compatible unit, also a fair amount of wireless Carplay adapters won't work. I think Bluetooth music form the phone would be the best way to o or Carplay/Android Auto and streaming services.

I have just contacted the dealer, I was told that before delivery the car will be checked and all and any software updates will be installed before collection, once I have the car and driven it for a while I will report back with my findings, expected delivery is approximately the 24th March

I have been contacted by the dealer and my car will be ready on Friday, I have just tried to get quotes for insurance on line, a lot of sites do not list the MG ZS+, rang my current insurer and they could only find MG ZS without the plus, if the log book says MG ZS + it has to be insured the same, any one else had the same problem?

Is that still not sorted. It's very frustrating as ideally you buy insurance a few weeks before it is due to get the best deal. They likely won't register the car until the date of delivery. My dealer and I think all MGs do driveway insurance and could extend this free for 5 days, so ask them to do that, and as soon as registered do a price comparison. Use topcashback if you can as well.

Thank you, I have managed to get a quote from the AA for £669, I am 78 so it gets dearer as you age, forgot about top cash back will look into that now,
