Annoying slowing in Adaptive Cruise

I've just driven 2x500km on sparsely used Spanish motorways this week; the 'adaptive' bit of cruise control is abysmal in contrast to the Prius and Ford Kuga systems I've used previously. Constantly sensing armco on gentle curves (not bends) and dips in the road. The first thing I did this morning was dive into the manual looking to see if I could turn off 'adaptive'. Computer says "No!"

I think you can change the sensitivity by pushing the control stalk up or down? I've never tried it myself because It doesn't seem to bother me.
Also if you consider the view as you drive along, whereby there are constantly cars coming directly towards your car (on a corner), road appearing (going down hill), road disappearing (going uphill), trees and vehicles flashing past (Corners) - I think it amazing that the system can work at all without constantly jamming on the brakes. My old XK8 (2005) performs much the same.
