White worm! So, I think this is going to be a problem for a lot of Trophy owners going forward.

My car is only 4 months old, with only 1500 miles on it so far. Since purchase it's only been washed by myself using mild car wash as and when needed, which hasn't been much obviously due to the mileage.

Anyway, during todays wash I've noticed embryonic "white worm" alloy corrosion starting on all 4 wheels, hardly noticeable at this point, but it will only get worse as the lacquer has obviously failed to do it's job already and allowed moisture to penetrate the sharper edges of the diamond cut areas. I've had this before, but never, ever, this soon. It usually takes 2 or 3 years to start!

Personally I couldn't care less, I hate the wheel design and have a new set of VW alloys just waiting to swap out when I find the time to arrange it, but all of you Trophy owners might want to carefully inspect your wheels and get a warranty claim in before too long if yours are suffering similarly.

Picture for reference, doesn't photograph very well, it looks worse in real life:

All 4 wheels on my 74 plate trophy are the same been to MG Leeds today with the car photos was took etc by them they will get back to me when they have spoken to the warranty department not holding my breath we will see.

They'll have to sort them out under warranty at the age of your car, and if they do refuse, they'll lose for sure if you take it to the small claims court as they're clearly not fit for purpose.

who would i take to the small claims MG or MG luscombe of Leeds were it was bought?
Well if MG refused the warranty after Luscombe's submitted it, MG. The dealers undertake warranty work for payment, MG have to OK that work having checked it's part of warranty cover. I doubt you'll have a problem though, as it's clearly still under warranty and the wheel finish is clearly at fault.

If it was one wheel, they could possibly argue. But all 4, no chance. Think you'll be ok.

Totally agree.

The obvious argument there, is that they are still perfectly useable as wheels, their cosmetic appearance doesn't make them unfit for purpose. They still need sorting under warranty though.

No, the expectation of the surface finish in order for it to be fit for purpose is that it will remain corrosion free and cosmetically acceptable for a reasonably expected period of time. This is most certainly well over 1 year in all cases! To clarify You would be claiming that the painted finish of the wheels is not fit for purpose/of merchantable quality, we're not talking about the structure of the wheels themselves.

Yes I agree, but be prepared for the argument. ;)

Ad a phone call this afternoon car goes in on the first week in May under warranty for 4 new alloys wheels cant knock that really.

Interesting thread, I noticed a similar issue recently on my Trophy LR too. It was bought in December 2024 and only has 1500 miles on it. A visit to my dealer is planned soon.......

I think it's going to be an epidemic!, seems to be lots of almost no mileage cars only a handful of months old suffering this.

I have never thought that I should wash and check the alloys under the aero covers. Do you run without the covers or do you detach them from the wheels when washing and replace them afterwards.
