Have you checked the settings for automatic high beam use? Perhaps the car is deeming the streets dark enough for high beams, maybe some dust covering the sensor?

If you have a road that allows you to do this safely, switching the car to neutral whilst driving and then braking also uses friction brakes, as there is no regen in neutral. Same goes for reverse gear.

Sometimes the weight of the CCS charging plug also messes with the locking mechanism (for locking anyway). Holding it up may make it easier for the locking pin to retract.
