    MG4 SE battery 1year SoH

Nope! I let the car charge to 100% once a week on my home charger. I’m on about letting it get below 10% then charging to 100% LFP batteries have a near flat voltage curve and can only determine capacity by letting the voltage drop to near flat then fully charging. Read the manual thanks, even...

    MG4 SE battery 1year SoH

Just had my first service done at 12 months and 10500 miles. A battery health check was done and it said 88%. That was actually battery health not SoC as it was at 85% before I dropped it off and 80% when I collected it. It was checked off as good and I’m not overly concerned about it but it...

    Worst car I've ever had

As someone else mentioned you can accidentally turn the lights off using the scroll wheel behind the stalk. I always leave mine on auto but once when I went from main beam to dip (I don’t use auto main beam) the lights turned off and I wondered what on earth was going on. Turned out I’d scrolled...

So, Long Range you say ?

I think the point is resetting the trip computer to make it give you an unrealistic longer range is generally terrible advice! It’s all fine and dandy if you’re familiar with driving an EV but there are people that aren’t. If someone is doing a long trip for the first time in an EV and plans...

URGENT INFO WANTED REGARDING MG ZS EV POWER LOSS ISSUE

You could always just make stuff up as that’s what most journalists do about EV’s. Personally I’d go with a story about the batteries being so heavy the car fell into a sinkhole it created, as the road couldn’t take the weight. That would explain a loss of control and it suddenly stopping. Job...

    Reliability worry

I’ve had a few minor problems with mine but nothing that meant I couldn’t drive it. The biggest one being the charge port needed replacing but it would still actually charge but was displaying the wrong colours. My local dealer has been really good so never had any issues getting problems...

    Credit where credit is due

Baylis Gloucester is my local dealer and my after sales experience with them has been great too, even though I didn’t buy the car from them. My car has been in under warranty a couple of times there and they have been really good. I even got the software upgrade without them putting up a fight...

What do you think is the cheapest feeling part of MG4

    Door cards and infotainment buttons.

Tips before setting off on first long journey

You might find you need to use the octopus electro universe app to start some charges, I don’t have much luck with getting the car to work.

Tips before setting off on first long journey

My tip would be to use open to all Tesla super chargers if you can. Many are open to all now and far cheaper than everyone else. If you get the Tesla app it’s easy to find them and you can use the ones that don’t yet support contactless payment. Often there are Gridserve for 79p per kWh with...

    Do I charge to 80% or 100%?

Oops, didn’t see page two so when I posted so ignore the below ? Regen is where the car uses the motor as an electric generator to act as a brake. So instead of wasting energy heating up the brake discs it dumps the energy back into the battery which also slows the car down when you lift off...

    Do I charge to 80% or 100%?

It isn’t. The LFP battery only has a very small bottom buffer and leaving it for long periods at 0% can irreversibly damage the battery. The manual states that if the car displays no valid range and is not charged to 50% with 7 days it invalidates the warranty.

    Do I charge to 80% or 100%?

As others have said with the battery in the 51 kWh car 100% is fine but unless you need to I’d not charge back to 100% every night (the manual recommends you charge to 100% at least once a week). You don’t get regenerative breaking at high states of charge nor will one pedal driving turn on and...

    Home charging puzzle!

Yeah we agree then. To be fair to Ohme, it’s a bloody good bit of technology. They don’t let the car decide so they can create some utterly bonkers schedules to help balance the grid and charge when it’s cheaper for them. The car has ultimate control though, as I discovered when I had my ID.3...

    Home charging puzzle!

I think we are saying the same thing in a different way? EV-database has the rate the onboard charger can actually charge the battery not the power it can draw. By commanding the on board charger to charge at 6.6 kW it doesn’t actually draw the maximum power (effectively slowing down by the...

    Home charging puzzle!

As above, Ohme thinks the MG4 can only charge at 6.6 kW so tells the car to charge at that max rate when it sets the schedule. They get the data from EV-database.org and the speed there is wrong, along with several other cars. Try changing your car in the Ohme app to one that has a higher...

    MG4 EV advice for newbie

Once you drive one you’ll be convinced. They are much more refined than petrol cars and have instant power without having to wait for the engine or gears to respond. They are way nicer to drive in traffic, especially if you turn on one pedal driving. If you can get a smart charger installed at...

How much you paid for a brand new MG4

Did mine by going through carwow first. Ended up with a different deal to what I was initially offered as I had a bit of a complicated trade in situation but think I paid about £23k for my new SE in the end. Was offered it for a bit less originally but it ended up as more of a haggle on the...

To go Extended range - To XR or not XR.

I’ve got the base model with the 51kWh battery and don’t regret the decision. I don’t have to mess around with the 80% charging thing, so for daily use the battery is effectively the same capacity. For the times I do go on a long journey I’d have to stop and charge anyway (the distance I do) so...

MG4 51 kWh charging speed on 3 phase system and on solar panels

Yeah looks like it. They get the data for the cars from the EV-database.org and it states 6.6 on there. Will set it as a different car at some point and see what happens but I don’t mind it being a bit slower. Means I get longer cheap rate slots when it schedules outside of the normal cheap rate ?
