Seeking Advice on ZS Hybrid Plus Electric Motor Usage and Fuel Efficiency

LiOn batteries need a little warmth for full capacity, and also don't like too much power to be sucked from them when around or below freezing, I guess it's a protective programming. In less overpowered EVS you also tend to have a little less power with a very cold battery (so in very powerful...

Seeking Advice on ZS Hybrid Plus Fuel Efficiency and Electric Motor Usage

AS pointed out by others, this is quite normal for a hybrid, engine speeds will vary depending on battery condition as well as on your speed/throttle position. And given that the MG doesn't use a planetary gearbox as a Toyota hybrid, it also has fewer fine in-between settings, so occasionally...

    Instrument Panel

As Hybrids don't necessarily start the ICE when you start them, this basically means they are "on" and ready to drive.

Loss of power due to empty battery / uphill driving / acceleration / overtaking

I don't think the ZS supports OTA updates, at least not for something as fundamental as engine/hybridsystem programming, so pushing would still have to be done through dealers, who actually install that. Probably not all dealers do it properly?

Loss of power due to empty battery / uphill driving / acceleration / overtaking

I agree, after 2000 kilometres in, mine also shows a better average consumption, and a bit more logical rev behaviour and EV usage. Maybe some learning curve, or a different profile programmed for the first hundreds of kilometres to get everything sorted?

    High revs

Correct, if it is white, it's inactive.

    Start button

For quite a while you need to press the brake in a vast majority of cars, some even in manual form (though there often the clutch, even in neutral). I guess it's mostly a safety thing, that you don't have it by accident jump as it starts in a gear.

Wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay

I use the Carlinkit 5.0 2Air, which is just wireless Carplay, but at that at least reliable; I had tried the Carlinkit Mini SE and a Stick from AIZEO with great reviews (and rather pricey), both of which did not work in my ZS, and looking in the MG3 forum, MG doesn't seem to like all that many...

    High revs

When you press the "steering wheel" button on the steering wheel and the speed in the top left corner of the screen turns blue, ACC is active, if the steering wheel symbol below turns blue as well it means that also lane centering ("auto steer", though I'd be cautious with that term) is active...

Euro NCAP results in (4 stars)

Never realized that cars are that expensive in Ireland, we in Austria already have several consumption/CO2 dependent taxes added that make cars more expensive than European average, but apparently Ireland adds even more... Back to the crash test; Reading the downloadable pdf reports, the scores...

Euro NCAP results in (4 stars)

The ZS is 35k in Ireland? Wow that's crazy, even in Austria with traditionally higher pricing it starts at 22.900 and ends at 26.900; How much is a Dacia Duster, a Yaris Cross or a Renault Captur there?

    High revs

At lower speeds, often the car will drive and charge at the same time, which can lead to higher revs. There is also the by now well known quirk that using MG pilot, it really is hesitant changing up a gear at higher speeds vs. not using the ACC feature.

    MG3 Hybrid+Heating Vs EV

The explanation is actually rather simple. The heater gets it's heat from a normal heater core like any ICE engine, so as long as heater is on, it will most of times need the engine to heat the cabin. As soon as you switch AC off, this need is no longer there thus the ICE engine can cut out way...

Major and minor things that could possibly be solved through an update

It is, just as described before, that around 140ish km/h, as long as you are using active cruise control(the lane centering is not available above 130, so then MG Pilot basically becomes ACC), the gear box will not use top gear, at least is very reluctant to do so. Which means that instead of a...

Major and minor things that could possibly be solved through an update

Agreed on all of those (though I haven't experienced the power loss yet, but probably down to European winter and the engine kicking in more often to heat and as a side effect keeping the battery always topped up); I will say the 140km/h thing is truly annoying, especially as otherwise MG Pilot...

    MG ZS Hybrid voice command

All agreed. In case of the equalizer, I'm 99,9 % sure that was just forgotten, maybe in the process of translating software, and hopefully will be added with a software update later. After all, the system is mostly identical to the MG3 H+. It would even be more interesting, whether the proper...

    MG ZS Hybrid voice command

Oh absolutely. The funny thing is, that when first press releases appeared in August, most outlets mentioned a launch in early 2025; Even on some MG Web sites (like Austria, where I live) initially 2025 was mentioned, and then, rather out of nowhere, the car was launched in October. My dealer...

High petrol consumption & high revs

Technically it is logical that Hybrids suffer more, because the ICE engine will run a lot more for heating purposes, even in scenarios where it would not be required for charging/performance duties and thus be off in mild temperatures. The discrepancy is even worse in plug in hybrids without...

    MG ZS Hybrid voice command

Unfortunately, as with some cars, as soon as CarPlay is connected, the voice command button is only operating Siri, and can't operate whatever it can without CarPlay (which I came across elsewhere is very limited anyways in the ZS). I always find it kind of useless to map voice command buttons...

    2024 1.5 Hybrid Trophy 5dr Auto

Whilst I do not find the ZS to be particularly noisy (I mean we are talking about a B segment SUV at the lower price end after all, so do not expect double glazed executive car levels of refinement), for Winter I do now have Dunlop Wintersports, so more premium tyres than the standard Giti...
