    MG4 Reduction Gearbox Oil Leak

We still have a 2014 leaf sulking down the side of the garage, side mounted breather on that, never shed a drop in the years we drove it. Bored me to tears as a driving experience though

    MG4 Reduction Gearbox Oil Leak

The one way ball bearing valve did result in 'slugs' of oil being trapped in my mega tube routed up behind the back bumper, definitely didn't help the situation. Removing the valve didn't cure the problem though, with 900ml the box still pumped oil all the way up to the end of the long tube and...

    Google map distance v cars.

Speedo seems to overread slightly, weird if the odometer does the opposite. In Bjorn Nyland's vids he seems to quote google maps distances all the time, some cars do under report and I think the 4 he had on test did so. Only wondering as it will mean our miles / kWh figures will be a little...

    Google map distance v cars.

I've found that my car tends to over report distance by around 2% compared to plotting precise points with GM. Not sure which one will be more accurate, thoughts ? Edit - sorry, UNDER report distance is what I meant to say, car says 98, GM says 100 .

    MG4 Reduction Gearbox Oil Leak

I'm certainly no EV reduction box expert, but I think I can confidently say that the head scratching choice the designers of this box made with the positioning of the breather, is the core issue. Around 4000 miles on, I still have zero leaks from a 900ml fill. I just used a sump plug adapter...

    MG4 Reduction Gearbox Oil Leak

Absolutely, they don't deserve your dollars if they don't do the right thing with this flawed design. The most oil this box seems to be able to contain is 650ml, even with their stick on periscope fitted. If that is what the newer batches of cars are operating with then in my humble opinion...

    Aircon pump squeak / chirp.

I'm guessing your fridge didn't make a noise like a chaffinch straight out of the box though. The compressor has moving parts, it's going to make a noise, but the noise from mine sounds like metal on metal. The fact that a forum member reports that a recharge with different oil cured his one...

    Aircon pump squeak / chirp.

'Oil issues' do seem to be a reoccurring problem on the 4 then  Did they explain what the supposed cause was, not enough or wrong viscosity ? Not that I would believe much of what the average dealership would say to me.

    Aircon pump squeak / chirp.

The noise simply isn't 'normal' for a refrigerant compressor despite what the dealers say. I've stopped letting it annoy me though as there's zero chance that SAIC will do anything about it. would likely mean changing the pump and a re-gas, so it will never happen.

    MG4 Windows dropping?

Haven't had a problem inadvertently hitting the window switches, did however manage to knock the lights completely off just as I was approaching a corner at 60mph in the pitch dark of a January evening. Went to put the brights on and my thumb caught the selector switch, took me a terrified...

MG 4 Safety Issue - Uncontrolled Acceleration

I think the first 'throttle by wire' car I owned was a 2000 'w' plate Focus, so it's been around a quarter century at least. Didn't fully trust it at first mind you , what if it goes bonkers I thought. At least a snapped old style throttle cable connected to a carb is naturally fail safe on ICE's.

How are everyones batteries doing? (Fairer weather range thread)

I ignore the GOM on my SE standard as it spouts nonsense till about 30 % SOC. The milder nights are definitely helping lower the battery's internal resistance though, within 2 miles I was up at 4.5 miles kWh today. Fell back to an overall 4.3 for the 32 mile trip on A roads mainly, 17 degrees...

MG 4 Safety Issue - Uncontrolled Acceleration

Don't need to touch the brake, I think it will do it without even coming off the gas IIRC.

MG 4 Safety Issue - Uncontrolled Acceleration

I can select neutral at any speed in my SE, often use it to clean the discs. Not sure I'd have the presence of mind to do so if the bastard took off on me though

Increasing font size for radio channels

And as for the time and temp..... I can't see a bloody thing. Damned 20 somethings, you'll get old too you know ?

MG4 is a huge leap forward

Yep regen makes a huge contribution , easily 25 % in an average jaunt I find. That's why I only charge to 100% a couple of times a month, even with LFP. The car sups electrons and the brakes feel slightly inadequate till you burn off a few kWhrs

    Mg4 new owner

The often quoted £1000 cost for a home charger seems a bit spendy to me, you should be able to reduce that IMO. I recently managed to buy a boxed brand new 7kW charger from ebay for £150, a fellow had got it included in a Fiat 500 deal but had never installed it. Ok, my garage is already wired...

    MG4 Range

If that's true then its more wildly optimistic than I imagined. My accumulated total is sitting at 3.8, haven't reset it for 2 months / 1800 miles. My short term trips are returning 4.1 at the moment with the warmer weather, GOM is suggesting around 4.5 miles / kWh judging by it's figures. It's...

    MG4 Range

There will be no active heating taking place, just the natural heating from the cells internal resistance. You should hear the battery coolant pump running if the battery heater has energised .

    MG4 Range

Yup, as an electrochemical device it is very dependent on temp. When I leave my village, the first miles kWh reading after half mile is usually 3 . something even at 30 mph. A few days ago following a mild night and a 18 degree noon, I saw 4.2 pop up at the half mile point, batteries do like a...
