    MG4 : 1st Service : What to expect?

Very true, but it just irritates me that you know your EV gets - and indeed needs - practically nothing during these visits, an expensive car wash is an apt description. Mine is due it's 2 yr service in December, no doubt they'll automatically change the brake fluid for a hefty fee. I dipped...

    MG4 : 1st Service : What to expect?

Yes, the 'servicing' nonsense has to come to an end in the EV era, it's legalised extortion. The established manufacturers seem to think it's cool to follow Tesla's lead in many instances, wish they would adopt the 'no servicing required' policy too

MG4 Trophy - smashed rear tailgate light strip

EV breakers in NI are pretty reliable and fairly priced, they'll often take a bid or have a promo code active. Not sure how difficult that part is to fit as I just have the plain old SE but sounds simple from Bricktop's description. The dealer's quote sounds excessive but unsurprising

MG4 Ticking/Rattling Noise Coming From Behind The Steering Wheel

Thanks, glad that I could help a little. Let us know if you're successful in getting it resolved. :)

MG4 Ticking/Rattling Noise Coming From Behind The Steering Wheel

Hope you can get you issue solved by MG under warranty. It is a very annoying noise when cruising around at lower speeds, spoils the experience of driving an EV to be honest . I'm just wondering how long the passenger side bearing will last now, I think it must be a bad batch of bearings...

MG4 Ticking/Rattling Noise Coming From Behind The Steering Wheel

Well, I managed to change the right front bearing. The m12 triple square bolts were incredibly tight so I removed the whole carrier from the strut to get access, the bearing was a bit seized to the aluminium so just as well I think. Good news though, it has cured the clicking !:) Holding the old...

    Simulated gearboxes for EVs

I think Hyundai / kia are using a motor on one of their EV's that has both star and delta configuration in it's field windings with 2 sets of MOSFETS in the inverter so it can alter the 'power band' of the motor by switching between the two field windings at essentially the speed of light. Not...

MG4 Ticking/Rattling Noise Coming From Behind The Steering Wheel

I suggest that you find some way of fixing a recording device - go pro or similar- and record the sound in the vicinity of each of the front wheels while you drive. If nothing is heard, then maybe your problem is not the same as mine. The sound on your uploaded video is almost identical though.

MG4 Ticking/Rattling Noise Coming From Behind The Steering Wheel

Yes, clicking, ticking sound heard inside the car at low speeds. Tyre and wind noise eventually mask it as speed increases. I too thought it was coming from behind the steering wheel or somewhere behind the dashboard but then realised that the speed of the clicking increased in relation to road...

MG4 Ticking/Rattling Noise Coming From Behind The Steering Wheel

The bearing has the wheel hub / axle installed with the end flared and clamping force set, impossible to replace just the bearing on this type. Well, I've ordered one and I'll probably do it over the weekend if I receive it by then, I'll report any success or disappointment ;)

MG4 Ticking/Rattling Noise Coming From Behind The Steering Wheel

Again, this is EXACTLY the sound I've experienced . Mine was much worse in the summer and very obvious when I spun the drivers side wheel manually. Have you tried spinning both wheels backwards and forwards ? Maybe yours won't do it while not under load, difficult to say. These bearings are...

Is OTA going to remain a lie?

Shame, maybe it'll never happen, it's our punishment for being tight and buying the base model. Honestly can't see any other reason for it (n)

Is OTA going to remain a lie?

I'm still on the original software on my Dec 22 SE SR. Don't suppose they've enabled the ability to turn off the annoying auto locking of the doors at 10 MPH on the SE ? Rolfe ?

MG4 Ticking/Rattling Noise Coming From Behind The Steering Wheel

Have not noticed the noise decreasing when cornering . The noise was not there prior to the 1st year service but I have the second due in December and will see what they say. Very odd noise, I don't think there can be a major fault within the bearing like one of the balls or races as that would...

Is OTA going to remain a lie?

I would expect utter carnage if it ever goes live, be very careful what you wish for IMO o_O

    Warped Charging Cover

The outer panel slides on little 'rails' to secure it to the inner hinge assembly. There's a 'barb' on the inner hinge that has to pulled back to allow the outer body coloured panel to slide off. It should then be apparent how it all slots together and you can slide it back on properly seated...

MG4 Ticking/Rattling Noise Coming From Behind The Steering Wheel

I have an almost identical noise on mine and I have traced it to the driver's side wheel bearing / hub assembly ( right side here in the UK ) It confused me for quite a while but the fact it increased with speed - and yours seems to have the same rhythm - prompted me to jack up the front of the...

    Active Grille system

20km or 12 miles would be useful but I really don't think I've noticed that, maybe a few miles were gained but that is difficult to assess within the natural daily variations. I pulled my front bumper off and cut out some thin plywood to fit neatly behind the vents once I painted it black to...

    Active Grille system

Hi there, yes been through 2 highland 'summers'- never above 30 degrees C and closer to 25 at best- but the car has been totally fine, still running it with the vents completely covered. Really can't say what aero improvements it gives, guessing it must help a little though. I mainly like the...

    Uneven wear on brake discs.

MG5 at 143k and it's brakes are looking like new ! They are totally different calipers compared with the 4 and look like they work far better. Being FWD helps too though.
