My Miles/Kwh is not looking great!

I'm fairly certain that the battery percentage display takes the voltage curve into account. It's also only actually operating between something like 95% and 5%. It won't be 100% accurate, but it isn't wildly out.

Charging at home well below 7kwhr

Was it just the Zappi that died? Is it possible that it was installed on a 16a circuit for some reason?

My Miles/Kwh is not looking great!

The miles per kWh figure is inaccurate (under reports) all of the time, but it seems to use a bayesian average which defaults to 3. It takes a long time to increase from this so appears especially low on short journeys. However, there does appear to be an overhead to starting from cold. It's...

    Newbie question Gridserve charging

Yes, the SR charges on any AC or DC charger while unlocked. I always make sure that the charger has locked in place before starting a rapid charge - sometimes I lock the doors to ensure this happens promptly. The difference is that, on DC, you can then unlock the doors without interrupting the...

    Balancing charge for MG5 SR

'Connected, uncharged!'; which, ironically, is objectively untrue.

Help! Charging cable stuck in MG5 EV

If in doubt, try pushing the cable quiet firmly into the socket. If you've tried to pull it out while still locked, you might have wedged the locking pin in place. Then try locking the car and waiting a few minutes before unlocking it again.

    Warranty vs Mileage vs Battery

The complication with that high mileage is that you'll likely be rapid charging a lot, which will accelerate the degradation to a degree. In practice, most EV batteries (especially those with active thermal management - like the MGs) don't seem to drop off a cliff, it's more a slow and steady...

    MG5 Range - lower??

I find the Norfolk A/B Roads the most economical driving. There's usually someone or other holding everyone down to a speed of 45-55 so there's usually someone in front to punch a hole in the air and lower speeds mean less wasted energy. In the city, I find the stop/start far more wasteful. A...

1st Service and Swapping wheels front to back

Their only functions are to keep the back off the ground, and keep it going in the right direction. Surely you just keep the fronts on until the wear totally, then move the rears to the front so as to wear those out before they perish and put the new ones on the back. Rinse and repeat. You don't...

Can I limit charging to 80% and if so how?

You're both making some misguided statements. Physics isn't 'bollocks' but charging to 100% isn't going to 'significantly reduce the battery life' and it certainly doesn't use 'twice the power' charging at close to 100%. Yes, there are losses from balancing the cells - particularly because MG...

1st Service and Swapping wheels front to back

It's a safety thing. Most drivers would be far better understeering than oversteering so newer tyres on the back is the recommended practice.

    Newbie question Gridserve charging

The reliable order seems to be plug in, lock the car (or wait for the car to lock the charging port - listen for the high pitched motor noise) then initiate the charge.

Charging at home well below 7kwhr

6.6kW is just about the maximum an EV can actually store from a 7.2kW supply after charging losses. It's a limitation of the car's on board charger. The EVSE could offer 22kW and the car would still charge at 6.6kW (unless it has 3 phase charging).

    Newbie questions

That's not really accurate. You can press the start button twice without your foot on the brake to enable running the HVAC etc from the HV battery while charging.

    kWh taken during charge

Yes, just calculate the hours x 7.2 for a reasonable estimate. Just double check that the charger will deliver that rate first. If in doubt, press the start button twice without your foot on the brake while charging and see how many amps are flowing. 18a at 350v is 6.3kW, which is ~ 7.2kW after...

Can I limit charging to 80% and if so how?

Yes, but the difference is that the cells suffer less degradation when used within the middle of the voltage range. Fewer cells with a smaller buffer would suffer greater cumulative degradation.

Podpoint only working when WIFI off

It makes perfect sense to limit peak demand by default when considering mass adoption of millions of EVs. Pragmatic planning is far better than the possible consequences of leaving it to chance. The minor inconvenience of having your charging limited under rare circumstances is preferable to...

Charging at home well below 7kwhr

I hit 7.3 in Fast mode or when using a timed/smart boost in Eco or Eco+. Is it possible that your Zappi is configured to draw a maximum of 16a? Check with your installer as there may be a reason for this, or it may be a mistake.

Can I limit charging to 80% and if so how?

Like I said, that's not how it works (apologies for appearing patronising though). The capacity is limited by restricting the voltage range within which the cells operate, not by retaining 'a pool of unused cells'; that's a rather bizarre assumption on your part. The nominal capacity of the...

Podpoint only working when WIFI off

Yes, chargers should default to working rather than not if they lose network connectivity. I would guess that most if not all are designed to do this, although I can't speak for the Podpoint unit. There is, however, a known issue with the MG EVs being a bit fussy about 'noise' on the power...
