    Octopus Go

Octopus just offered me a fixed term, fixed rate, gas/electric tarrif, with a significant exit fee. My understanding is Go will shift to a variable rate tarrif rather than a fixed rate/term. For me, I rarely charge at home, but I load shift as much as I can to the off-peak, so my average cost...

    Octopus Go

You need a compatible charger (currently only Ohme) or a compatible vehicle. MG are not listed, MGs without an app (early models) have zero chance of ever being compatible, but the later ones have an outside chance, but it does require MG to communicate with Octopus.

    MG5 Shipment

Last I checked It was around 12 weeks from leaving China to being at your dealer. If that car wasn't already on a boat/at the dock your dealers estimate was a work of fiction. Most leasing companies seem to offering locations now instead of dates, I.e "built and awaiting shipment" amusingly...

A NOT SO short update on our British Gas Hive EV charger installation.

Possibly not cheaper than Intelligent Octopus that works in a similar way, like BG it only works for certain charge points or certain vehicles. Still a complete farce they removed a smets 2 meter for no reason.

A NOT SO short update on our British Gas Hive EV charger installation.

A smets2 meter is a smets2 meter.. I could understand if it was smets1 and they insisted on a new one as they can't read from it, but this seems to be completely pointless.

65% would be 6hr 30m on my home charger I would do this over 2 evenings in the 4 hour window on octopus go at 7.5p/kw = £2.58

Yes, it's actually got it's own section in law... Abstracting Electricity, contrary to section 13 of the Theft Act, 1968. A person who dishonestly uses without due authority or dishonestly causes to be wasted or diverted any electricity on conviction or indictment be liable to imprisonment for...

115m divided 3.5m/kwh = 32.86 throw on 5% in ac/dc losses = 34.5 x 35p for a typical domestic supply cost and you're at £12 give or take a bit. Always best to be courteous and ask and offer to pay. Some rentals are on business tarrifs and those are not pretty right now.

MG5 SR (pre-facelift) Exclusive vs MG5 LR Trophy

Personally can't see 10k value in a new bumper, app and infotainment screen when I use the car for commuting, mostly charge at work and use android auto. The LR Exclusive packs all the same safety features. And at 20k is good value. I would strongly suggest you get the 12v battery drop tested...

How satisfied are you with your MG EV?

Highly recommend getting the windows tinted. Side and rear glass is 100% clear so get the front sides done too. I've survived the past couple of weeks with minimal heat in the car and usable seats.

Chinese EV Ponzi scheme = fields full of EVs unused!

Well I certainly don't want a new wallet, that was very annoying. Or a BYD if that's their approach.

IS IT PERMITTED TO INSTALL TOW BAR/HITCH ON THE MG5?

The LR was technically a 'face-lift' model a year after the SR so I can understand the confusion. The trim level is the easy way to tell though. Exite/Exclusive are pre-facelift Much like the roof rails, I suspect there's zero difference in the construction of the vehicle, just a different...

IS IT PERMITTED TO INSTALL TOW BAR/HITCH ON THE MG5?

Original MG5/LR are not rated for towing. Facelift 5 is.

    Insurance, crazy renewal

No, you've just aged out of the middle bracket, as someone nearing 70 you will now be on the upward trend, it gets steadily more expensive as you head towards 80.

    New MG5 and Mudflaps!

The 'extras' department at MG is very lacking. I got. Mudflaps and Mats for my LR but by all accounts they pretty much quit offering them. I don't know if the Facelift differs in these areas but I suspect the Roewe ei5 mud flaps on AliExpress will still fit.

    Insurance, crazy renewal

The end of price walking does mean that some who were on way below market price policies are seeing some shock price rises. The industry as a whole is getting battered by price rises and availability issues, so there are some large increases across the board. In March my MG5 went down £30 due...

Finally found a well designed cable protector.

There's a guy on here with a 25m cable, specifically because it means he can usually reach a lamppost charger regardless of getting the parking space directly next to it.

MG5 EV sales - local dealer info

I've probably waved at both of you and the half dozen cabbies I see. I work in romford/Hornchurch/cranham/Rainham. I see ZS facelifts and MG4s near home in witham. But never seen a facelift 5.

Finally found a well designed cable protector.

Honestly can't see that working in a typically terraced housing area. Way too many 'yoofs' that will have a go at swinging on it. I usually park my car nose in at work, Friday I had to make a stop at a different site so when I arrived I had to take the spot where you have to park nose out or...

    Stunned !

I think it's worth noting the media at large putting down EVs will have put many off buying a 2nd hand vehicle for fear of needing to replace a battery etc. Obviously those that do their research and are interested in making the switch will be fine, sadly the public at large are still not...
