    Little pockmarks on bonnet

Ah, that's a point. We did go past one some time back, but we've don that loads of times before. Could that really create that sort of damage? Neither us or the gritter would have been doing more than 40 or so.

    Little pockmarks on bonnet

Yes, we've been here permanently for 16 years and not seen this before. Our previous car absolutely did get a stone chip, and wow, did we know about it when it hit. That was a time when they were re-doing the main road beyond the single track. Yes, we do have 400m of dirt track to our house...

    Little pockmarks on bonnet

Thanks. Not sure if it's easier to stomach if they are physical damage or a duff bonnet (I had a landie whose back door paint pretty much flaked off in the first 6 months, so maybe I'm over-sensitised). Just weird because I'm sure we would have heard stones clattering off the bonnet, there are...

    Little pockmarks on bonnet

No, it's not a dirt track, it's a single track. I agree it looks like stone chips, but on the side of the bonnet? Also, we would absolutely had known had we been hit with so many chips. I haven't counted them all, but there are at least a dozen I know of.

    Little pockmarks on bonnet

Oh sure. Should have done that first. I have what I think are normal sized fingers, so used pointing, for scale.

    Little pockmarks on bonnet

Herself said to me the other day "I see we must have picked up a stone chip on the bonnet." Well, that's to be expected, but today I asked her to show me where, and I find that the bonnet has numerous little +- 1mm white pockmarks. They're scattered everywhere, to the extent that we would have...

    Shiny! (Clean car)

Ouch, that hurts. We found a scratch on the door today, and it draws the eye like a kid picking at a sore scab. Not sure what we'll do about it. It's shallow, fortunately, but Goth Leo the SELR is black, so it stands out. That red looks good, though.

    Type 2 cable recommendation

All of this is all very well, but (a) what length should you get and (b) what colour should it be? :) (Actually the length issue is relevant. We bought a 5m cable, thinking it may be necessary, but I'm beginning to think a more manageable 2 or 3m cable might have been more sensible.)

    MG4 SE Unresponsive Gear Selector

+1 re the door open. The car seems well air-proof too, so sometimes the door doesn't fully close on a less-than-ethusiastic thump. I'm beginning to learn that if something unexpected happens, it's usually happening for a reason. An example, I couldn't turn on auto-hold a while back. But in the...

    Goth Leo in the snow

Oh good grief - you're absolutely right, and I got the keyboard incantation wrong. I sort of just did it and carried on, rather than checking. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll not correct in an edit, or these posts will make no sense, but it's worse than no accent at all. The web site is...

    Goth Leo in the snow

I don't know whether there are new conventions, but there's a lot of dirty work with anglicisations, that's for sure. But place names are the best of things, and the worst of things, I maintain a place names web site, and here we have names with Gaelic, Norse and Scots origins. Sometimes, Norse...

    Goth Leo in the snow

Just had our post delivered. David the Postie apologised for missing yesterday, as he went off the road up Srón, which you can see in one of the videos I posted. This is mildly surprising, as our posties have such experience in these conditions, but makes me even happier with our car's...

    Goth Leo in the snow

Our posties are fearless, but as the post didn't get through to the village today, they had no reason to test anyone else's nerves.

    Goth Leo in the snow

Do you know, it really wasn't nerve-racking. I quite enjoyed it, in fact, though that would have changed pronto had the car started slipping. The sheep here are pretty street-wise, so don't really react even with a loud ICE car bearing down on them. They do tend to do a just-in-time thing to...

    Goth Leo in the snow

Yes, I put the car into snow mode. This was because I assume it's more careful with traction control with it on, but for sure one of the things it does it put the car into low regen. I have had a few dodgy moments in icy conditions around slow corners, which I realised was the high regen - icy...

    Goth Leo in the snow

Well, that was an interesting morning. TL;DR - I'm glad we got the all-season tyres we did late last year. There didn't seem to be much snow this morning, but I had to take a parcel the 6 miles to the post office. There are several steep sections in the hills along the single-track road around...

Charge Place Scotland & Electroverse issues

Mmm. I wonder if that first generation of council-owned CPS chargers is starting to feel its age. There are 2 in Ullapool, and both had issues the last couple of occasions we were there. On Monday, we had a weird one. We head for the Ullapool Harbour Trust owned one in the ferry car park, as...

    Reverse Camera SE LR

Yup, also thinking about it. But aliexpress now shows a confusing "Sorry this item is no longer available" while also saying 47 are in stock, and apparently no way to place the order.
