    Hot enough for you?

It was a balmy 43 here at the beach house at Black Point SA. ... before it cooled down in the evening. Lovely!

Only charging at 45kW max. on 350kW charger.

The Australian brochures have only ever claimed 88kW and still do. https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0580/0476/6795/files/MG4_Product_Brochure_2025_v2.pdf?v=1751962542 *Not sure if this link is going to be valid in perpetuity...

Only charging at 45kW max. on 350kW charger.

Exactly! Past 80% things really slow down. 90% to excruciating levels. There's one leg on my "regular" 2 day 1500km trek from Sydney NSW to the beach house in SA where I used to charge up to 85% to minimise the range anxiety but these days the only time I charge past 80 is if I can't get back...

Only charging at 45kW max. on 350kW charger.

There's no strange reason kW limit is halved! It's physics ;) P=VxI 360kW chargers are 800V X 450A. They are typically current (I) limited so a 400V car can only get up to 400V x 450A = 180kW Stations do have total power limits. Tesla sites are configured so that each supercharger plug...

Only charging at 45kW max. on 350kW charger.

The Taycan is an 800V architecture car and designed to support 350kW charging on suitable 800V chargers. The MG4 is 400V architecture and the SR/51kWh LFP battery version tops out at 88kW charging, albeit the most I've seen on ours is 70ish kW for a little while. It's not our long distance car...

Upgrading base MG4 as much as possible...

I recommend the JBL Stage 2 604C speakers. They include replacement tweeters and bass/midrange drivers that fit the MG4 original equipment locations and significantly upgrade the sound quality. There are some links to installation instructions I can look up if you are interested. I have them...

    Chinese manufacturers

Where "bit of a Berk" is shorthand for Bond film level of evil megalomaniac ;) If they'd actually produced the compact "Model 2" it would have been the car to suit us, but the Y and 3 are just too big for our needs. Damn shame.

    Miles/kWh

I'm thinking that with a couple of million vehicles under their belts the large manufacturers have confirmed there's no practical advantage ;)

    Miles/kWh

I don't get it. The torque the electric motor supplies is essentially constant irrespective of speed. All I can see is you are adding additional mass for no gain. ?

    Miles/kWh

So, not actually a practical suggestion for the vast majority of people going on trips outside of town. For sure, it's true that you will get much better energy utilisation at 85kph vs the speed limit of 100 or 110kph. One of the best things to do if you are in danger of not making it to the...

I'm trying :) Sometimes my mates say I'm very trying

    Miles/kWh

How exactly? I use ACC on long distance drives all the time. I set it to the speed limit and it keeps the car at that speed very consistently, up hills and down dales. Varies by a kph at most. It adjusts the power to do so, obviously using more power going uphill. That would be because it's...

    battery consumption

Absolutely this is the case. You will get far better energy efficiency on a busy highway than an empty one. Also, a nice smooth road vs a rougher one. For example I get 16 - 17 kWh / 100km on the Hume & Federal highway between Sydney and Canberra / Yass / Gundagai following in the pack of...

    MG4 in Australia

Whilst the extra range of the 77 is nice the real difference is the extra 20% power but even more significantly extra 40% torque. *Not that we intended to get the Essence LR 77. It was just through a series of serendipitous events. We actually went in to get an Excite 64 to replace my wife's...

    MG4 in Australia

Damn! Just wondering, doesn't the Balranald caravan Park allow dogs? I guess at this time of the year they might not have had a free cabin to hire. One of the crosses we dog owners have to bear. What to do with the dogs when we go away on holidays. First World Problem :D

    MG4 in Australia

That's opposed to conventional ICE cars carrying around highly flammable hydrocarbons that regularly ignite in accidents incinerating the occupants... But we already deal with that so, all good :ROFLMAO:

    Ottocast with MG4

I don't have an Ottocast specifically. I've had three* cheap "generic" ones from Amazon/Aliexpress and they've all had the delay pre-set. *We have 2 MG4s and one of the three didn't work reliably for my wife's car and her iPhone. They've all worked fine for me with a Pixel 9 & 10 android phone.

    Ottocast with MG4

Is this a "wireless" CarPlay / Android Auto adapter? If so, find out how to connect to its management interface and ensure there's a 20-30 second "startup delay" set.

    Miles/kWh

I get 500+ km around town easily, Normal mode, regen 3 and A/C on always. Average around 15kWh per 100 km. Highway figures much more dependent on road conditions, speed etc. High quality roads with plenty of traffic going in the same direction at 110kph, around 17-18kWh per 100 km. Average...

    %, miles or both?

There's two scenarios. First is you're just driving around town not doing any particularly long journeys so all you should care about is that you have enough to get home and/or the nearest charger for your standard charge. In my case with a NMC battery that's to 80% and for the wife's LFP to...
