Welcome to the forum. Resetting the various systems after reconnecting the 12V battery by driving the car is standard across most of MG's EV range. You might find you have to turn the steering wheel lock to lock to re-calibrate it is also required.

I suspect it will stay on until the traction battery runs out even switching the lights on when it gets dark. You'll need to switch it off on the infotainment screen if you insist on not locking it.

I have one because the same was said about the MG4. But in the 2.5 years I had my MG4 and the 5 months since I've had my MGS5 the only time I used it was to jump start the girlfriends diesel car.
